Or is it the lush, reverbed-out solo electric version? It's the band version, from early '94. I've always loved that arrangement of the song, and you're right, it does have a very "Shatter"-esque feel to it. I sometimes wish Liz would get her current band to replicate this arrangement -- I just love its sprawl and how it builds. The particular recording I'm including from that tour maybe isn't the best quality-wise (not bad, but could be better), but the performance itself is incredible. It's from Liz's April 8, 1994 show in New York City. That was the day Kurt Cobain's body was found, and after the song, Liz gives an off-the-cuff dedication of it to him. >Looking forward to this stuff. Most of my rare Phair is on cassettes, >which I never play. Same here. I'm listening to a lot of this stuff for the first time in ages, now that I'm slowly working on transferring everything to CD. I forgot how great a lot of these shows and radio interviews are, so it's been cool rediscovering it all. Just curious, are Liz's Lilith '99 shows being hoarded? I swear, it's like no one wants me to get ahold of decent copies of "Stranger" and "Love/Hate Transmission." I know this stuff has gotta be out there, since it's been mp3'd... ;) Cheers, Jase ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 02 Apr 2001 14:15:10 From: "Katie Brown" Subject: [none] steve kisko (hi!) wrote: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Listers, make sure you read Ken Lee's *150th* (that's right, 150th) Liz Phair article transcription tonight. It's an old interview that leaves something to be desired (I blame that on her companion for the piece), BUT it's a nice look back at the days when Liz was the next big thing. She even turns down a joint in this article! 150 transcriptions, folks. and something like 800 photos. consider this plus the WCSE sessions pressings, and there is no doubt that Ken Lee is (or should be) the most celebrated Liz devotee on the 'net. (If, in fact, "Liz devotees" should be celebrated at all.)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ lol... do a Google search for Liz Phair and the "I'm Feeling Lucky" takes ya right to Mesmerizing... :) hello bizzoyz - hope all is well I too am really looking forward to the new versions of phairities as well and i'll do anything i can to help! I am talking to one of my techie music friends about remastering the lounge ax for me... the kid does sick noise-work on phish boots and he is also a phair phan... he actually saw her around Chicago a few times when he was at u of chicago late 80's early 90's (psst lani i'm talking about cassidy ;) ) soooo my long winded point (as ususal) is that when the new phairities is compiled hopefully Flower and Conversation will be cleaner versions than the ones we all have - cutting down layers of noise sounds like so much fun to me. ahh, the life of a musician that works for George Lucas, makin money playing with toys and noise all the time... *fun* Liz in LA? but what about the old bull on the hill? and why do i think we'd actually see and hear more from her if she was there? it would have been an industry move, right? or was she just sick of the crappy winters? survey: do ya think she really did it? and how am i gonna find out for sure? Allison - we need this and how are we going to find it? sandra i too lost touch with justin... probably before you did, after he stopped working at mediaone. but i don't think he ever had the avalon show with Allison.... he had the next night, when she did i'm a believer, but not allison. stupid radio station, they totally should have broadcast that show - tracy bonham was on fire that night - and the crowd was great. plus they had cake, what more do i need in life? i miss you guys. Katie Myers i got your stuff and i am sending you lots of *~*~*~*~*GOODVIBES*~*~*~*~* to get in to the that school - but i have the wrong email address for you. angellieb is not workin for me - what gives? well i have been a wreck lately about moving and law school and everything. as of now it's looking like i'm outta here mid june, europe in july, and either chicago or san fran in august. well that's about it... later systers - Katie B <(:D _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 02 Apr 2001 10:29:19 -0400 From: Ruth Barron Seabrook Subject: like mulder, like ruthie... well, since mulder was returned from his abduction last night, i guess i can stage a reappearance as well (ken, you mentioned that like 2 weeks ago, but i was on vacation so i'm skimming the old digests), and jase, i caught your shout-out before i left, but didn't have time to write back... yes, all, i am still alive, although i am thoroughly depressed today since it my first day back at work after 2 weeks vacation in the british virgin islands. and its cold and cloudy and yucky here :-p... anyways, quick synopsis of what i've been up to... applied to med school, probably going to washington university in st louis, but still waiting to hear about waitlist status at columbia and cornell. (anyone here from st louis want to give me the lowdown, i'd be most appreciative)... living in east arlington/cambridge/boston area, working in neuroscience research at McLean Hospital, the psych facility made famous in "Girl, Interrupted" hmmm.. lets see... i spent my entire vacation listening to the new kristin hersh, and it is thoroughly amazing, although i had heard a great deal of it last fall at her show at the brattle theater.. she played almost entirely new stuff, including "spain," which i thought was beyond brilliant then, and am so glad it made in onto the new cd. i have the new blake babies, but haven't listened to it yet. i'll have give an opinion on that later. okay, think the rest of my lab has come back from bible study (yes, they have bible study on monday mornings... i'm pretty sure they all think my friend and coworker therese and I are heathen infidels who are going to hell) so i think its time to do some actual work. either that, or they don't know about daylight savings time.... whatever. later, all (:ruthie:) - -- Ruth B.
