[Jason Long ] Bounced message [owner-support-system@smoe.org (by way of Jason Long Subject: 'Phairities' update Just a quick update on the Phairities project... As it stands, over two-thirds of the work is already done. There's a couple of songs I want to try to clean up a little more and I'm waiting for a couple of more recordings to arrive. My guess right now is that the master discs should be completed within, say, another two weeks. In the meantime, I was just wondering if anyone might be able to help me out in obtaining better copies of the following three songs: "I'm A Believer" "Stranger" "Love/Hate Transmission" The recordings I have of these aren't necessarily bad, but I haven't been able to clean them up as well as some of the other songs. I'm almost becoming an obsessive perfectionist about this compilation, but hell, if I'm going to go to the effort of putting something like this together, I may as well make sure I do it right. If anyone can help me out with getting better copies of those songs, I would really appreciate it. I'd be more than happy to work out a trade or send you a copy of the completed compilation. I've burnt myself 'work in progress' copies of both the live and studio discs about a week ago. There's an amazing sequence of three songs partway through the live disc that I just know a lot of people are going to love -- "If I Ever Pay You Back," "You Have No Idea" and "I'll Get You High," all sounding *much* better than on the old Phairities cassette. I keep playing those songs over and over... More updates to follow as the discs come closer to completion. Hint, hint. ;) I originally wasn't going to include "Freak Of Nature" on the studio disc, but then I did remember that it had already been officially released on that Q101 compilation way back when. Plus I did have room for one more song, so there you have it. Excellent album! Any ideas from fellow Lizsters on where to go next >with Helium and/or Mary Timony? Helium is one of my favorite bands. Before the Magic City, they made The Dirt Of Luck which is more raw and punk but which has some songs that announce the melodies of the Magic City imo. It is excellent in a slightly different style. A couple of great EP's too: Superball and No Guitars. And the first EP Pirate Prude is from before the Dirt Of Luck and is great too and a lot like the Dirt Of Luck musically. After that, Mary Timony released Mountains which reminds me of the Magic City, and also made the EP The Age Of Backwards with the Spells which consists of her and Carrie Brownstein from Sleater-Kinney. Their music is a lot more Helium than Sleater-Kinney oriented. And before all that, Mary Timony was in Autoclave and they have a self-titled album. I like it a lot too but is far from Helium imo. That's it. :) Moe ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V4 #89 ***********************************
