Weird. I've been listening to the Jesus and Mary Chain a lot myself lately, although my favorite is undoubtedly _Psychocandy_. _Stoned and Dethroned_ is a great album as well and seems extremely underrated even among some fans of the band. If anyone's even thought of checking them out and hasn't yet, you could do worse than to pick up either of these discs. I think _Psychocandy_ is out-of-print in North America right now, but it does pop up every so often in the used bins -- never hurts to keep your eyes open. I swear, I could listen to "Just Like Honey" on repeat for hours on end... I remember reading in one article that _Psychocandy_ was one of Liz's favorite albums while she was in college. I may be wrong here, but I believe it's also the record that Liz said was responsible for her "alternative awakening." Emil, speak up if you're around; I know you'll know this and be able to correct me if I'm wrong. I'm keeping it in mind, and I really would love to see Le Tigre. For now, I do want to keep things open though, just in case Liz's album does come out this summer and she's touring around that time -- I definitely don't want to miss out on that! I keep wondering when Aimee Mann is going to tour again as well -- I'm dying to see her again as well, since it's been over a year now since the last time. They've got an album out on teenbeat and it's pretty good, with at least a couple of fantastic songs. according to the teenbeat website, melissa's new band is called The Long Goodbye, but i hadn't heard of them until a couple weeks ago, so. ben Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! She's my hero! 1) Since the beginning of time, ardent fans have yanked promotional rock posters off the walls at clubs. I was just carrying on the tradition last night at Sarah Harmer's incredible show in Dallas. I needed the poster to get Sarah's autograph. As I approached her, a club bully said, "So you're the guy who stole the poster." I muttered that the concert was over. That's when, Sarah, my hero, stepped in and said, "It's okay, they're free." That's what I like. Singers and rock stars that are nice and stick up for their fans. So, how was the show? It was great. Sarah has a beautiful voice and her songs are very personal and poetic. She kind of hypnotizes you from the stage. Highlights included "Lodestar," "Open Window," and "Coffee Stain." My girlfriend really liked her too because Sarah writes personal songs about her plants and dogs, celebrating their life or death. Steve, you are right. "Songs for Clem" is for her father Clem because he likes Hank Williams-type songs. Sarah sang Nanci Griffith's "Trouble in the fields" from that CD. She grew up on a farm and has a very down to earth nature. That is cool. This was favorite show since last summer's Yo La Tengo show in Chicago with the Lizphesters. 2) Jason, the show reminded me of the infamous Liz show at the Lounge Ax. It had that same intimate feel. A few months ago, a friend called me to say he saw the photo of "The International Club with Liz" on a stray web site. So, we are famous, somewhere. "The International Club" was the name given to us by Liz after she learned our group had come from Toronto, Milwaukee, Boston, and Dallas. That night was a dream come true. 3) Speaking of live shows, has anyone seen The Magnetic Fields or Coldplay live? Can you tell us what their shows are like. I remember someone mentioning awhile back that the Magnetic Fields did the whole "69 love songs" show. That must have been great. 4) A note on Napster shut-down hysteria. I don't think it will affect us that much because record cos. are going to protect the gum-chewing hits that we don't like anyway. Our music will still be out there. 5) Jason, Craig, Katie, and last year's Liz Phesters.....I will crawl from Texas to see another Liz show with you guys. Will the calendar smile on us this year? 6) A thought: When Liz retires from music, what do you think she'll do for a living, if anything. Will she be a full-time mom, a record producer, contribute songs to other singers. My guess is that she will be a teacher of some sort. What do you guys think?
