Anyway, my favorite Liz song (for this week) is Nashville and I was wondering if anyone had any info as to what the song is meant to be. I always saw it as a very passionate and beautiful love song, but I remember hearing someone say it has something to do with Liz's newfound fame after Exile. Any interpretation from you all? james P.S. Does anyone know where Liz currently living. Just curiosity. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Mar 2001 09:01:24 -0500 (EST) From: steve the dyke-tyke Subject: Re: support-system-digest V4 #64 hehehe the digest last night tells me y'all watch too much buffy! it seems like half the list posted as soon as you saw the ad...just goes to show how we are starved for new liz...:( i haven't gotten the new blake babies or amy ray..can't find em. don't really have any money. doesn't really matter cuz kristin hersh's sunny border blue is the best album of the year and will be all i listen to for the next few months :D steve. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 07 Mar 2001 10:28:46 -0500 From: "kimberly ann" Subject: ironic stuck on an island hey does anyone know where i can get tabs for "stuck on island" thats such a great song and seeing as how me and my friends have all been getting in wrecks lately i would love to play it. i ran into my mom's friend today on the way to school. her car is fine and my bumper is just a tad dented. and my friend flipped her 4runner this weekend but everyone is ok. kimberly ann _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Mar 2001 08:47:05 -0800 (PST) From: Emil Breton Subject: re: Mix article from the Mix article, about the recording of whip-smart: True to his band-is-the-sound aesthetic, Wood didn't employ much in the way of effects or processing on the album, and sometimes he and Rice did a lot of fooling around to get interesting sounds. For example, the cut "Nashville" has a chorusy guitar sound that, on an inspiration of Rice's, the pair achieved live. Phair played her guitar through a miked amp while Rice stood on a chair 20 feet away from the amp, swinging a lavalier mic on a 20-foot cord in circles overhead. At the outside arc, they placed a room mic that was out of phase with the mic on the amp. The effect is something like the world's biggest Leslie. When Phair made a mistake halfway through, they tried punching in, but everthing was off, so they realized they'd have to get one continuous take. Unfortunately, Wood says, "Liz messed up a number of times, so poor Casey's out there having to carefully swing this mic, because if he got too close, he'd smash into the other mic. We braced up his arm, but even so, by the time we got it right, his arm was totally numb. He gave his all." I think this is so cool. Don't know if this technical stuff interests the lot of you, probably not, but I'd always assumed they just used a chorus pedal on high for this song. No, no, it was a swinging mic. Wow. This article, available at Ken's site, is such a valuable find. Thanks again, Ken. The strange studio techniques described are like a testament to the undeniable weirdness of Whip-smart. Damn, I missed the new Liz commercial. She's everywhere these days, isn't she. Tedford said: <> So true! Tedford funny. - -Emil Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! I got totally excited and my little sister thought I was a freak. I am probably going to have the commercial burned onto a CD in QuickTime format from our internal server. Would anybody else be interested in that? I couldn9t do more than one but I could send it to someone with a burner and they use it to trade or whatever. I don9t know if anybody is interested, just thought I would ask! E-mail me privately if you are. By the way the products that have been advertised lately for Apple are pretty awesome, especially iTunes (had to get a little advertising in). Oh and Ken, that picture on the front page of your site (the one where she9s pointing) is so beautiful. One final question, does anyone still get that funny googly feeling when listening to Liz? I get it when I hear Erecting a Movie Star and May Queen, I feel all tingly. Ok I9m done, have a wonderful day. Xoxoxox.
