A TV. The only explanation, as far as I see. Noticed that a good while ago. Can't really hear whats being said, but when the piano dies down at 0:52, you can hear the wretched sound of tv static, odd as it may be, then the voice comes back. Sounds like a news broadcaster. Don't know if anyone ever noticed, but theres also clicking noises at the beginning of the track with the piano. When I first heard this, thought maybe it was a mixing problem, but the clicks are spaced enough to be a remote control - after the final click, which sounds to be a louder one, the "voice" starts... leading me to believe its a tv. just my view. michael ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2001 02:45:00 -0500 From: rickilake@juno.com Subject: EIG vs WCSE vs new album It doesn't take a genius music analyst ( do they even have those?) to know that WCSE is miles away from EIG. Apart from making a judgement on artistic value the two albums are like apples and oranges. Wcse was a studio album made with the latest equipment, etc. EIG was a home grown type of album where a lot of the songs were just adaptations of GS stuff originally recorded on borrowed lo-fi equipment. The sound is gritty and simple. I see a progression in the albums to the studio sound. You can hear on whip-smart that liz made the music "fuller," background vocals and such. It was more than liz with the guitar, where EIG had the focus on that with everything else kind of secondary. I agree with E in that on wcse the guitar was not the focus at all. As melinda mentioned, there is all sorts of "stuff" on EIG that's a result of how the songs were recorded. Wcse is polished and perfected to be the best sound it can be. You can see this in the liner notes. On EIG the credits were like 3 key people, liz, brad, casey. On Wcse there is a list. My hopes for the new album are .. mostly that it comes out... The wait for wcse was miserable. I almost gave up and figured liz was retiring and I would have to take out the capitol records building as part of my vengeance. I remember Liz saying that the stuff she was working on was "dark." I'm not sure what this means. Judging from the new songs she played on tour it seems to mean subject matter is not happy lovey stuff, but will be set to incredibly catchy tunes. Love hate transmission? Very Singalong, but about masturbation ( i think). Conversation - girl misery , but catchy. I would love to hear more stuff like Bloodkeeper. It "feels" like Liz, but isn't the old stuff she seems to have grown out of. Re: Stuff on Eig - You must have EIG on CD and get some good earphones. it's hard to hear anything with tape and crappy headphones, but I think the headphones are key. Also listen to gunshy and you can get this circular voices around you feeling. (I was sober, I swear) Someday I will document the background stuff, but not until I unpack all my CDs. Where's Ken? Get his butt up here. - ---melissa ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Later guys > ~*Jessica oh... well I don't care so much about the thank-yous and lyrics written inside etc. The packaging was less "liz-like" too, but I could've easily lived with that if I liked the CD itself more. I agree it was a decent CD, but musically and lyrically it never hit me the way the other ones did. I consider her other stuff phenomenal, not just decent, so sometimes I feel like maybe my expectations were too high. I have high hopes for the next one but am trying to keep my expectations low. i do hope she puts 'conversation overheard between 2 bouncers' on the new one...
