So; about the song Crater Lake. Liz said that most of the songs off of "whip-smart" are actually old, but she changed the lyrics to some of them so they felt newer. Crater Lake is a fine example of an old song Liz probably wrote right after, or right before she graduated from college. This means that this song was probably one of the girly sound tracks no one has heard. I think some of the lyrics to this song are extremely clear, while Liz probably changed some of the more personal ones being that "whip-smart" came out long after she finished college. She probably didn't want to sound juvinile. Maybe I am pointing out the obvious, but lines like "and oh, all the tears/ in four tiny years/ well look at me I'm frightening my friends" seem to be about Liz being very saddened about leaving school. "tiny" as in the four years it takes to graduate from college went by very quickly. I think "frightening my friends" probably means she was depressed about leaving, and this simply worried her friends. The line "when I was getting drunk in your room" is a clear reference to partying in one of her friend's dorm rooms. The rest of the lyrics are obviously about some kind of change, and how she has to move on. I know I thought this song didn't make much sense at first, but when you really look into her lyrics it's not that hard to figure them out. Hope I cleared this up for some people, I really enjoy this song a lot more now that I understand it. it has a really great buildup, and her vocals sound really rockin'. I checked the cbgb's website and one of my favorite artists "Huge in Japan" is playing there again (at te gallery) sunday feb 25th @ 10:00 PM. The guy rocks. That's all. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 04:27:48 EST From: AWeiss4338@aol.com Subject: Re: you're aging well In a message dated 2/16/01 3:28:04 AM Eastern Standard Time, beckybecky@rocketmail.com writes: > has anyone heard of a song called 'you're aging well' > that liz sings with joan baez and dar williams. > > just saw it on napster (our favorite doomed sortware) > and wondered what it is. > > I know Joan and Dar do do a duet on Dar's song You're Aging Well, but Liz isn't on it, unless there is some bootleg floating around. As far as I know, Liz hasn't done anything with Dar or Joan.
