Since I introduced the topic in digest V4 #31 (February 1, 2001), I'll try and answer your questions... >1) "Julie Johnson" is the title of a new movie - and Liz Phair >has one new song in it - but the only thing we've heard of it >so far is on a little trailer for the film, is this right - or >have people heard more??? Okay, "Julie Johnson" is the movie in question (which stars Lili Taylor and Courtney Love). Liz has more than one new song in the film -- probably similiar to what Aimee Mann did for "Magnolia". I'll try and get the total number of songs she did in an upcoming post. My *source* has heard more of it, and those in attendance at the Sundance Film Festival who watched the film did as well. >Is there more than one new song? yes >Or is she gonna do something like Aimee Mann did for "Magnolia"?? >(I lied. There are more than 2 questions.) The Aimee Mann comparison sound right. >2) I have also heard lots of threads regarding "what does everyone >think of the new liz songs?" - Since we're on the topic - IS there >any new advancement in her new album status??? A date??? a hazy date?? That was in Billboard, October 21, 2000. It's picture #617 on my site. In the caption, it states, "This set is planned for release during mid-2001." >Is the album still called "An Evening With.." or was that scraped >long ago? So that's that. I don't have an answer for you there. >Where is the new album? and what the fuck is Julie Johnson? New album: mid-2001. "Julie Johnson": a film featuring songs by Liz Phair; expected release date for film/soundtrack: fall 2001. I hope I've answered some of your questions adequately. I'll try to have more details soon... - -Ken kenmlee@ix.netcom.com MeSmErIzInG - AnOtHeR LiZ PhAiR WeBsItE http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Club/2471/ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 07 Feb 2001 22:54:14 From: Kenneth Lee Subject: wcse sessions available Hi all, Since I have the opportunity... I'm sure this has been broached before, but is that a male voice throughout the song "Oh My God" from the WCSE demos, or is it just Liz, slowed down? I apologize if this has already been discussed at length. I need to settle an argument. I think the name of the song is In Indiana. A very worthwhile purchase. (The other big song you might recall from that CD was I Drink Coffeee Instead....) Even though they only played about 30-40 seconds of the song, they played it throughout a majority of the show. Basically every time the host was talking, it was playing in the background. I was excited about it at the time. It was a bonus from listening to the interesting show. Just thought I'd throw that in there, since it came up. ~Melinda _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Feb 2001 23:28:29 -0500 From: "overpavement" Subject: Re: support-system-digest V4 #38 > here at capitol we're doing a COLDPLAYER promotion...the entire album can > be heard off the web via hollywoodandvine.com or heavy.com. ...i'm > interested in getting some of your thoughts on this type of promotion. do > you think it will hurt sales? help sales? neither? would you be more > inclined to buy the CD or be content with the internet stream? i definitely know people (and i use the term loosely) who believe that if they can download an album, they're not going to go buy it no matter what. so i can't say it won't cut into sales from that angle. but on the other hand, it generate more awareness which itself could lead to more sales. in the end, i think, a label can really only maximize awareness. they can't *make* people buy the cd's. but remember, WCSE was available on the web for about a week prior to its release (was that on broadcast.com, i think?). quality wasn't great, as i recall, but it was done with the label's blessing. so, the precedent is already set with liz's last release. capitol should know by now whether it was a factor in the final sales figures or not. > WHY IS YOUR OPINION IMPORTANT? well...liz' album *should* be coming out > soon, and i'll have a hand in promoting it over the internet...so any > imput you have would definitely help in drawing up a marketing plan for > liz' album. jason's ideas are great; i'm sure we'd all do what we could to help spread the word. my main suggestion immediately would be for the record company to do some things to start building some buzz on the hollywood and vine site. i know it's a matter of priorities, but why does liz's web page on the capitol site still say she's going on tour with lilith fair "this summer"? the page hasn't been updated with a single piece of news since early 1999. if someone's visiting the site and checking out artists and visits liz's page, the clear impression is that it's old news and that capitol can't even be bothered to update her one page with something more current that 1999. by now i'd have thought it might have some sort of update just so it was clear that someone at capitol knew better than to tell visitors that liz is touring with lilith fair this summer (or last summer, for that matter), when it's not accurate. sorry, i'm not trying to bitch here. and i'm not really answering your question, i suppose. but the main thing capitol could do right now, today would be to just make the information on liz's webpage seem to be current. hint that she's working on her new release now. hint that it may come out later this year (that may be against capitol policy), but do something just to start some buzz among the liz fans who aren't members of this list. also, if capitol won't keep the information current, would it really hurt to put up a link to ken's site, steering people to a site that does contain up-to-date information? i'm sure there are legal issues there (what if, the day after the link is up, ken starts posting porn shots or turns it into a Jewel fansite or whatever -- how would capitol live that down?), but i'm equally sure there's a way to make an arrangement with ken that says he agrees to certain terms and conditions in return for having traffic steered his way (i'm just using ken as an example; i'm not volunteering his site). that's my 2 cents. o ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V4 #39 ***********************************
