Knowing juliana's non-stop touring that always includes multiple mich visits, im sure they will! :D re: Sarah Harmer. I think the cd is really jazzy in a poppy sort of way. I'm seeing her at my fave venue (small acoustic place for folk acts) in a couple weeks. Im thinking it will sound different from the album. Looking forward to it. >It's funny that Steve mentioned Throwing Muses -- I know factually they >were formed in and did release a few albums in the '80s, but for some >reason, I automatically associate them with the '90s. That makes sense. Though i did get into them in the mid 90s, i think i associate them with the 80s because that's when they released all the stuff that I like best: the s/t album, house tornado, hunkpapa...and of course there were those demos that were officially released a couple years ago. but fuckina, those are some of my favorite songs EVER. yeah, i associate them with 80s. good 80s. the best 80s :) :) i also associate blondie with the 70s. though i did see them on their last tour and debbie harry still kicked ass!!!!! i have been listening to so much old salt 'n pepa since these 80s convos....they really were the most kickass thang. it's funny, because i feel like two main things have influenced my musical tastes today...1) what my parents listened to when i was growing up (lesley gore, "girl groups" of the 60s, abba, cyndi lauper, madonna), and 2) the female rappers / r & b singers i listened too in the late 80s (primarily S&P but also stuff like queen latifah, jj fad, janet jackson, ). These were the voices i heard growing up. The earliest memory i have of music is dancing around my living room with my cousin when i was 3 years old (to Mama Mia by abba...hmmm...say, trent, maybe THAT'S my "root"! holy shit! i've FINALLY found it! next step of rehab?). but yeah, i think that's why i have always preferred hearing female voices to males, because it was what i heard during my childhood. Of course, as i grew older and discovered tori amos (as well as feminism), a whole new dimension was brought to my appreciation of female musicians. why the hell am i rambling about this crap? because im procrastinating a paper due at 10am :( steve ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Feb 2001 03:06:34 -0500 From: Jason Long Subject: Re: link to liz in movie At 07:01 PM 1/31/01 -0800, Robert wrote: >here is a link to a clip of the movie 'julie >johnson'. in clip one on the page you can hear liz in >the background towards the end > >http://www.holemusic.com/news/index.html Thanks for posting this, Robert. I couldn't really make out the song very well on my lousy computer speakers, but it does seem to be a new one and seems very promising. I've been searching around online ever since trying to find any news on when the soundtrack is scheduled to be released, but I've come up empty-handed. I don't imagine it'll be any time soon, though -- according to one site I visited, the film's not scheduled for release until the fall, and I couldn't imagine the soundtrack coming out much before the film. Hopefully Liz's new album will surface first and the soundtrack will be a bonus. The site is now located at [http://members.home.net/phairist]. I've finished transferring almost all of the files over as of this morning, apart from the articles and reviews, which I will hopefully get to in a day or so. There isn't really any new content on the site as of yet, and Lord knows it's been ages since I've updated anything... Once I've finished putting the site, such as it is, up at the new address, I'm going to slowly revamp the site -- both in terms of content and appearance. My first priority was just getting it back online in its new location. The 'Other Liz Sites' section is long out-of-date -- if anyone has a Liz-related site that's not listed, please let me know so I can link to it. If your site is listed, but the URL has changed, let me know as well, so I can correct the link. I wonder if she did virtually the whole sountrack ala Aimee Mann for "Magnolia" or Tom Petty for "She's The One"? From your report that's what it sounds like. It's just so good to hear that Liz is in public again. I would kill to get a copy of that Sundance live performance. ;) Steve wrote: >>Craig, i love that you can rant about how much you love 80s metal bands on a liz phair list and then NP - the donnas. that made me smile.<< What can I say? :) I listen to a huge variety of music and I really don't care about what anyone else things about it. Rock, punk, metal, jazz, surf, blues, lounge....it all works for me! :) Craig NP: Palo Alto - 'Palo Alto' ===== And when we walk down the street The wind sings her name to me I will meet you in the next life I promise you Where we can be together I promise you Until then I will wait for you in heaven I promise you - Megadeth: "Promises" __________________________________________________ Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! If only there was an official group from which you could be shunned! hehe It must've been all of that hoopla (there was one?) surrounding Apple Venus I & II that has you shaken. I understand, though. It's easy to forget about what amazing music was made during the 80's. As many other people have mentioned, those 80's compilations are, for the most part, horrendous. Thanks K-Tel, but I heard Glass Tiger's "Don't Forget Me When I'm Gone" too much the first time it was out. Oh and Jase ... What about Crowded House? I think you are getting senile in your old age. (You knew I would work Neil Finn in here somehow, didn't you? :P) Anyways Jase, your penance is to listen to a Creed album for three days straight. Maybe then the 80's won't seem so bad to you. ;) Piss, vinegar, and flashdance ...
