Just go to [http://www.aimeemann.com/promo/]. On first listen, I do like it, but not nearly as much as the album version - -- it's still interesting to hear an alternate take on the song, though. I mean, Tom Petty put out two of the finest albums ever made IMO in the 80's when he put out "Long After Dark" and "Full Moon Fever". His other albums from the 80's were great too. Then there was the Pixies in the late 80's. And of course there's the heavy metal scene of the 80's that I'm a huge fan of. Megadeth, Anthrax and Metallica put out so many classics in the 80's that I still love to this day. Not that anyone here cares about that. :) So the 80's weren't all bad for me. (i know a few of you have mentioned many of these). anyway, there's tons more. and, yeah, like someone said, those '80s collections are totally stupid. that wasn't the '80s to me AT ALL. i'm like, "that's the '80s?? what the hell are you talking about?" ha ha--it was such an intense mishmash; there was all MTV-fueled superpoppy stuff (and the rubber bangles and big shoulders) and then the rest of us running around in thrift-store cardigans, horn-rim glasses, and arty buzz cuts. it was a gas. i remember a real excitement, sparked especially by REM; it was a totally new sound, the musical goals were different--god, it was fucking cool. it was like they broke sound open. that's when "alternative" started, really, as we know it, as far as the whole package goes--and as a distinct entity. those were the days.... anyway, dp ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Jan 2001 13:35:52 -0500 From: "Vanegas, Trent" Subject: No Liz; Blake Babies return Blake Babies Reborn With 'Bless'-ed Album Influential Boston trio reunites for 12 tracks; 'Brain Damage' features Lemonhead Evan Dando. Joe D'Angelo reports: Fifteen years after their inception, the freshly reunited Blake Babies will release God Bless the Blake Babies, their first new album in over a decade, on March 6 via Zok Records. The influential Boston trio of frontwoman Juliana Hatfield, guitarist John P. Strohm and drummer Freda Love-Smith (nie Boner) recorded the album's 12 tracks in an Indiana studio early last year. Chief Lemonhead Evan Dando, a frequent Blake Babies collaborator, duets with Hatfield on the track "Brain Damage," which he co-wrote with Ben Lee. Formed in Boston in 1986, the Blake Babies released their debut album, Nicely Nicely, in 1987 and helped spearhead the burgeoning alternative/college-rock movement. Never quite achieving mainstream recognition, the group disbanded in 1991, though the members garnered moderate success with individual projects. Hatfield fared best commercially, releasing six solo LPs and one with the Juliana Hatfield Three. The songs "My Sister" (RealAudio excerpt) and "Universal Heartbeat" - from JH3's 1993 album, Become What You Are, and the 1995 solo release Only Everything, respectively - were radio and video staples during the tail end of the alternative moment. Her last two albums were last year's Total System Failure and Beautiful Creature, both released on Zok, an imprint of Rounder Records. After the Blake Babies broke up, Strohm and Love-Smith continued along similar musical lines with Antenna until they disbanded in 1994. While sometimes playing with Dando's Lemonheads, Strohm also fronted Velo-Deluxe before going out on his own with 1996's Caledonia (with the Hello Strangers) and 1999's Vestavia, both receiving critical praise. The track listing for God Bless the Blake Babies: "Disappear" "Nothing Ever Happens" "Baby Gets High" "Waiting for Heaven" "Until I Almost Died" "Picture Perfect" "When I See His Face" "What Did I Do?"
