Now I feel special :-) For anyone in the area there's this cool new band/solo artist guy called "Huge in Japan". He has been starting to play all over manhattan. If you ever see a listing, go see him, his songs are really good. His even covered "fuck and run" at one show I saw. - -Dan np- Huge in Japan _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Jan 2001 17:31:34 +0100 From: Moe Subject: 100% Liz related Hi I have a couple of questions regarding Girlysound. I only had it on tape and I downloaded the songs off Napster to have them on CD. What is the song "Conversation between two ????", is it from the Girlysound Tapes? And what's the deal with "Red Ruby Lips"? The one I have found does not sound like Liz Phair at all. "Conversation Overheard Between Two Bouncers" was the new song that Liz debuted at the Lounge Ax show in March 1999; a studio version may appear on the new record under the title "Bouncers' Conversation." It's not a Girly Sound sound, but those of us who were at the show more or less agreed that it had that kind of vibe. (By the way, can I just say how weird it is to find something from a show you recorded turn up on Napster? Not that it's a bad thing; it's just interesting to realize that more people are going to hear it than I had thought when I taped it.) "Red Ruby Lips" is not a song by Liz, but a snippet of a recording by Odetta that was either included by Liz on the tapes or by someone who's made dubs of them along the way. No one seems to know for sure. It sucks, I know. BUT: if you look at places like Gemm.com, they have it. And Ebay occasionally does to, for not that expensive. If you look in used record shops, too, you might be able to find it. Thats how I found my copy, completely on a fluke. Oh, and if you go out of state, or some place where Liz might not be that popular...like, South Dakota or something (not looking to offend, but most peeps in the rural places arent to big on "horny feminists"), you might be able to find a brand new copy. Thats what happened when I went on vacay. And Ruby Red Lips...I have no clue what's up with that song, but it was off of Girlysounds... If youre looking for a "hard copy" of "COnversation", its on a few bootlegs out there. Ask around. xoxo ana ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Jan 2001 16:14:53 -0800 (PST) From: Emil Breton Subject: Re: VH1, Liz promo posters I saw Liz on VH1's new list show, and yes, it was exciting. I liked all those never-before-seen photos they used, like the ones from the same shoot as the photo that ran with that Jancee Dunn-penned Q&A in Rolling Stone 1998 (not that I expect anyone to remember that article). I dislike the fact that VH1 neglected to mention the Pazz/Jop win (aside from briefly showing a clipping of the article). I guess if they had mentioned that in the voice-over, it would make Liz's criminally low ranking (#96) seem even less justifiable. In response to steve the dyke-tyke's question, do I have something against the Pj! Tori! Ani! folks?: no, I don't. But most of the people who post here about that particular "Holy Trinity" don't ever actually talk about the music they make. My post was about Harvey's musical evolution from Dry to Stories... (which seemed like a full-circle kind of thing), whereas a lot of the other posts on the subject seem, at times, like some kind of political thing that I don't understand. Like it's some club where you have to like all 3 (and sometimes Poe). Am I getting myself into more trouble by saying this? :) Take it EASY. Regarding Liz posters: EBAY, EBAY, EBAY!!! There are something like 10 promo posters for auction as we speak. Most of them are the crappy wcse ones, but there's also that really neat 10 X 38 whip-smart one. Once in a blue moon, the ultra-rare Exile ones come up and go for like $40 or more. It's usually the simple dark one with the b&w shot of Liz crouching down in front of a trippy brown/black/green swirl background. The coolest one I've seen, and I've only seen it once, is one that, I believe, makes mention of the Pazz/Jop win and reads "THE PRICE IS RIGHT" in those stick-on letters (a play off the back-cover art -- classic Matador). Too much information? The point is, keep checking Ebay. Sandra, your "Jesus fucking Christ" post made my day. - -E Yahoo! Nah, they're two completely different songs altogether. I have the lyrics saved at home, so I'll try to forward them later; "Conversation Overheard Between Two Bouncers" starts off with the lines, "See that girl alone, dressed all in her evening clothes? She's dying, because her boyfriend didn't show up..." They're not about to "run down that hill and..." Well, you get the idea. :) Cheers, Jase _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Jan 2001 21:52:48 -0800 (PST) From: Kenneth Dean Wurmser Subject: Re: support-system-digest V4 #20 So, I've never posted before and am not sure about everything, but...
