But I should really correct a little thing here. Romeo and Juliet was Shakespeare's greatest commercial success, both during his life and afterwards. The Titus thing is a canard trotted out by pro-censorship types. They lie. xo Derek > anyone know what shakespeare's greatest commercial > success was during his lifetime? that's right, 'titus > andronicus.' never read it? that's because it is so > bad that most shakespearean scholars don't even like > to admit that he wrote it. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2001 13:06:40 EST From: HOLEPARTS@aol.com Subject: pj In a message dated 1/16/01 12:49:56 AM Central Standard Time, owner-support-system-digest@smoe.org writes: << AMEN! "Is This Desire?" did grow on me - "angeline", "The Sky Lit Up" and "The Garden" were cool - but as a whole - it didn't feel like a PJ record to me at all. It was by far my "let down" for that year. Her new one - I like much much better and it does remind me a bit of "Dry" - however - I still don't think it can hold a candle to "dry" or "rid of me" - which is my favorite PJ Harvey album (and one of my favorite albums of all time). >> i personally think "is this desire" is just a tad bit better than "stories", but "stories" is really good, just like every PJ Record. "Rid of Me" is also very good, but it took me a while to get into it mike ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2001 13:12:46 EST From: HOLEPARTS@aol.com Subject: hole In a message dated 1/16/01 12:49:56 AM Central Standard Time, owner-support-system-digest@smoe.org writes: << Also - anyone know what HOLE is doing? Courteny seems to be really involved with movies right now (to my dismay- i want my favorite band to release an album already!). she is doing 2 more this year. she's also in the midst of a couple court cases. i think she still is being sued for leaving Geffen, and she just recently filed a suit against a stalker (her ex-boyfriends psycho ex-wife). the web site hasnt been very exciting at all lately... not many updates, and it isnt really informative. at first it seemed to be very promising, with the mp3s and all that, but i really don't know what is going on. she has had lots of free time lately, so i hope she is working either on writing the record, or the site. i really dont know what is going on. im just kind of sick of this acting stuff for the time being (the movies she's made arent even available for her fans to watch!) mike ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2001 22:51:03 -0000 From: "over pavema" Subject: chillin' this time i will be brief. i just wanted to acknowledge that my earlier essay probably crossed a few lines, unintentionally, and that i understand the chastising replies, even if i disagree with many of the assertions made in them. one clarification i really want to make in case i was so narticulate that others made the same inference: i didn't say (or didn't mean to say) that there's anything wrong with disliking WCSE at all. there was a thread of logic i've seen in several postings that i take issue with in terms of disparaging WCSE strictly in relation to its not being similar enough to EIG, but beyond that i have *no* reason to disrespect anyone's subjective opinion about WCSE or anything else for that matter. that's it. o _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2001 21:42:49 EST From: RocketBoyD@aol.com Subject: SPIN sucks (most of the time) the folks at SPIN are some hypocritical bastards......... These are the folk who just blasted Liz for having a "failing" career and two crappy albums following her debut..........I mean, SPIN gave "Whip-Smart" a 9 out of 10 when it was reviewed.........how is that crappy??? And as for their review of "WSCE" -- a 6 out of 10, they can kiss my ass........... I understand that the magazine doesn't care to keep track of past reviews it's writers have written, but SPIN magazine like to slam artists at whim........that drives me crazy.....let's be consistent, eh???? In my opinion, Liz is one of the most underrated artists of the past decade.....and her albums don't receive nearly enough accolade as they deserve.........Liz's two follow-up albums to "Exile" were given a beating, totally undeserved....... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2001 20:37:16 -0700 From: "{USER_FIRSTNAME} {USER_LASTNAME}" Subject: money OK, So I am always walking around singing Liz Phair songs and the other day something hits me. In "Shitloads of Money" she says "big LK and the gangster disciples..." I just put this together... gangster disciples is a gang that a friend of mine used to belong to. In light of this, any clue what the hell the song is about (not that I understand what many of LIz's songs are about) and does anyone know what big LK's refers to? Don't know if any of this has come up before, but thought I'd share. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2001 21:17:57 From: Kenneth Lee Subject: more Mesmerizing updates Hi all, Yes, I have added new stuff over at my Liz site.
