Boy, that was short-lived. Liz probably didn't get > as much exposure as she'd hoped - but maybe someone will ask her to work > again for another show... if you look closely, this only says that 'the weber show' won't be shown during february sweeps, but it *is* sticking around for the rest of the season. i have to say, i am NOT a steven weber fan at all, but i've sort of grown to not mind the show. for a sitcom, the writing's not that bad. i am particularly fond of the recurring lesbian whom i last saw, i believe, as a porn star on 'sports night' (which has reruns now on the comedy channel for anyone who misses this as much as i do). if the show does survive into next season, who knows, maybe they'll reinstate the theme song. in the meantime, who was it that had that MP3? forgive me for not saving it ... sandra ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Jan 2001 23:51:04 -0500 From: Dan Subject: Not a Sellout if nobody buys it. Hey guys.. Becky - I really agree with what you said regarding "selling out". I'm really sick of the whole thing too, and I don't know if I have heard anyone explain it better than you in my years spent on this list. I guess the closest thing I can think of that comes to a sell-out would be Colleen Fitzpatrick, who is now lovingly known by swarms of 13 year olds as "Vitamin C". And yes, there is a Vitamin C doll. I've raved/ranted about her before - if anyone is not familiar with the name - she was formerly the lead singer of the sometimes alternative, sometimes metal-tinged, sometimes punk-tinged band EVE'S PLUM. With songs like the hard edged "Blue" in which Colleen growls and screams, to songs like "Post Orgasmic Depression" which she states she wrote about - and I quote: "That feeling you get after you fuck someone you can't stand," to the beautiful song "EYE" which Liz Phans will be familiar with - since it is on the HIGHER LEARNING soundtrack, along with Liz's "Don't Have Time" - - and is by far the second best track on the album - Eve's Plum have ALWAYS made music for themselves, be it radio friendly or not. So you can imagine my surprise when Colleen quit the band and started singing Britney Spears-esque pop ditties that are SOO obviously mainstreamed to sell records to the legions of backstreet boys fans. She looks like an overdone characature of Christina Aguilera. Now she is lying about her age, saying she is about 4 years younger than she really is (that's not a joke either) and she is making appearances on such acclaimed shows as "The Teen Music Awards" - "Teen Hollywood Squares" and gracing the cover of "TEEN PEOPLE". I mean, fine - but HON!! YER NOT A TEENAGER!!! Anyone who knows Eve's Plum, knows that Colleen is much more capable than the crap she is pumping out -however, the crap she is pumping out is selling records and making her a star (she's even in that new Wes Craven Dracula 2000 movie as "lucy"). But it bites..she's basically admitted to selling out in an interview - she said that she already made 2 acclaimed indie underground rock records with Eve's Plum, and she wanted her turn to be the star and be the pop star she always dreamed about as a little girl - which is fair enough..but come ON! She went from intelligent, to senseless - without even a HINT of middle ground in her new songs. I am really sorry I keep talking about this - but it just floors me, and I honestly cannot believe it is true sometimes. Like, when i do see VITAMIN C in a video, or at an awards show, I don't even make the connection that *THAT* was the singer from Eve's Plum. It would LITERALLY be the same thing if Courtney Love all of a sudden dropped off the face of the earth for one year - and all of a sudden, a new teen sensation sprung up, with dance moves and prom theme songs - named "Love Heart" - and we took a closer look, passed the tank top, plastic surgery and pink lip gloss - and noticed it was COURTNEY!! You are all probably thinking that it would never happen - COULD never happen? right? I am sure you all are. Let me inform you - it COULD. If it could happen to Eve's Plum -it could happen to ANYONE - because when you listen to the lyrics, the sound, the vocals of Eve's Plum - NEVER IN ONE BILLION YEARS could you even fathom that she could bring herself to the level she is striving towards now. It's just unbelievable! There is no trace of the old Colleen!! Okay, sorry..I'll shut up about it. But whenever I hear the term SELL-OUT - I can't help but recount the horror, and the loss of a fabulous dream band - like Eve's Plum. bye ladies and gents.. Eve's Plumb was a local band for me, they were from Old Bridge NJ, I'm about a half hour away in Red Bank. I loved Eve's Plumb, ever since I heard the demos on a local modern rock station, the wonderful Eatontown NJ based WHTG, of many of the songs that showed up on their first album. Thay were local favorites, and they were great. Never saw them live but I loved their songs. So when they broke up I was very sad-and then horrorfied about Vitaman C. And she's lying about her age, how funny, how pathetic. Yep that's a 'sell-out.' She's been disowned by the Jersey shore now. It is sort of a joke because Krusty the Clown is offering advice to the pop stars, but here is what it says about Liz: Current Status: After the release of her classic 1993 debut Exile in Guyville, Phair looked set for a superstardom that never materialized. Disappointing follow-ups Whip-Smart and Whitechocolatespaceegg left Phair exiled in Lilith-ville. Fast approaching Where Are They Now territory. What Went Wrong: "Look honey, here's the thing. Your act, it's too girlie. People don't want songs about boys you have crushes on or pretty flowers. And don't start crying, either. I hate it when dames leak" Krusty's Advice: "You need a testosterone injection, but quick. A male singing partner is just the ticket. I happen to know that Herb is looking for new Peaches. Say the word and it's done." Ow ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Jan 2001 16:06:21 -0800 (PST) From: Easter Subject: Liz Vinyls Just curious, would there be anyone interested in buying EIG and WS on vinyls? (Or in my simple language, LPs.) I need to get rid of mine and know of a place that would buy them, but they have nothing I'd buy from them. In other words, I'd like them to go into good hands. They're fairly new and I've never listened to them, I bought them just to have them. I'd like to sell both of them together for $30(US), which will include shipping and handling. There's a catch though, if I get too many people interested, everyone will have to come up a funny Beatle joke. Whoever creates the biggest laugh will be the future owner of these two vinyls. This is the kind of shit I would love to see go away, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. That's why there needs to be a revolution in rock, a big fat protest movemnt to get rid of it, and homophobia.
