Forgive me if you >mentioned it in your post, but I'd love to get it >myself. Thanks! I ordered it from Music Selection, whose Web site can be found at . They're a Canadian-based company and the only online retailer I've stumbled upon who carries the compilation (although I think CD Japan used to). All the prices on the site are in US funds -- I believe the CD is listed at $22.55. If you do a search for "Minty Fresh," you should be able to find it easily. The only downside is that they do not keep the items listed on their site in their warehouse and only order them from their overseas wholesalers as they receive orders for them. It took about 15 days from the day I ordered it for them to get it in stock, and about another week after that for it to arrive in the mail. Still, no real complaints -- I'm just really happy to finally have "Carnivore" on CD. I realize the disc is a little expensive, so I may post mp3 files of both versions of "Carnivore" on the web at some point. Most of the versions I've come across on Napster have been encoded at a 128-bitrate and sound like they're either from the vinyl itself or the Phairities compilation I put together a few years ago, where it was taped from my copy of the single. If I do bother encoding the song, I'll try to do it at a higher bitrate (maybe 192 or thereabouts), so it will be of better quality. Also, I'm starting to wonder if it might be time to recompile the Phairities compilation, since I have much better source recordings now of almost all of those songs. It might not be a bad idea to update it as well to include some of the more recent rarities, since the original Phairities only covers up to mid-1996. With the new album still at least a few more months away, it might be a way of tiding everyone over. You owe it to yourself to pick it up. Thanks Jase, I think I'll make it my Christmas gift to myself this year. I've been debating on what I want to get myself this year and you just sold me on this MF anthology. I actually have been debating for the longest time on whether or not it would be worth it to buy this cd because it is so pricey but if the mastering is as good as you say, just to have Carnivore (one of my fav Liz tunes) on CD would be well worth it...well, it being a Christmas gift and all... Thanks for the review and info. An Austin TX singer/sonwriter named Robet Earl Keene Jr. wrote it. His version is cool too. Got it off of noaloha.com. Basically, its saying that the Breeders are back together. I may be jumping to conclusions, but the fact that they played a show last night, along with the fact that they played some new songs, implies that they arent just planning a cutesy gimmicky reunion thing. Here;s what noaloha.com says: December 12, 2000 The newest incarnation of the Breeders played a secret, low profile show tonight in Los Angeles, CA. The band consisted of Kim, Kelley, and three mysterious guys. The show was at Mr. T's bar, and was broadcast over the web through Liveclubs.net. They played a half-hour set of both old and new stuff, including songs that they haven't played in years. The setlist was as follows: Tipp City, Flipside, No Aloha, Too Alive (aka Swinger), Mom's Drunk, Safari, Pacer, Put on a Side (new), Full on Idle, Cannonball, Fire the Maid (new). Despite the fact that Kelley called the show "just a rehearsal", the band sounded really good. Visit Liveclubs.net for a replay of the show! I don;t know about the rest of yall, but this news excites me. :) Oh, I am still gonna proposition everyone about the Liz music videos thing! Isnt there anyone out there with a collection that could share the wealth? ;) anyways, Ima go now. xoxo ana ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Dec 2000 21:43:50 -0600 (CST) From: Vasant Ramamurthy Subject: Breeders Resurface At Surprise Show Breeders Resurface At Surprise Show Sisters Kim and Kelley Deal announce band will record with Steve Albini next year. Sorelle Saidman reports Wed., December 13, 8:14 PM EST http://www.sonicnet.com/news/story.jhtml?genreNameForDisplay=Rock&genreDirectoryName=rock&id=1424548 - -------------------------------------------------------------- Resurfacing at a surprise club appearance Tuesday night in Los Angeles, the Breeders' Kim and Kelley Deal announced the band expects to record with producer Steve Albini next year. The twin sisters appeared at Mr. T's Bowl in Highland Park, California, for an unscheduled set just before 8:30 p.m. and played for roughly 40 minutes, according to the club's owner, who gave his name only as Joe T. Albini (Nirvana, PJ Harvey) said Wednesday (December 13) that he has been working on an album with Kim Deal on and off for more than a year, and that Kelley Deal had also been involved in some of the sessions. He also confirmed that Kim had been working on putting together a live band. "[Kim's] been working on a new record sporadically whenever she's had time for over a year now," Albini said. The producer said he does not yet know whether the Breeders sessions will be a continuation of that material or whether the new group will be starting over. Though Tuesday's show was intended to be kept secret, many fans learned of the Breeders' appearance, and the small club hit its 150 capacity by the time they hit the stage, according to a club employee. The group also showed up at the club on Saturday night but did not perform, Joe T. said. The performance marked the first time the Deal sisters had played live in public together in more than six years. They were backed by drummer Jose Medeles of 22 Jacks, bassist Mondo Lopez and guitarist Richard Presley of the recently revamped punk band Fear. Started in 1990, the first version of the Breeders included Kim Deal, former bassist for the Pixies, and Throwing Muses guitarist Tanya Donelly; Kelley replaced Donelly in 1992. The sisters, with an oft-revolving lineup of associates, haven't released an album of new material since 1993's Last Splash, which included their breakthrough hit, "Cannonball" (RealAudio excerpt). The group last hit the studio to record the song "Collage" for last year's "Mod Squad" soundtrack. At the surprise show, the group played 11 songs, including new ones titled "Too Alive" and "Fire in the Maid," the latter sung by Kelley Deal. Also in the set were "Flipside," "No Aloha" (RealAudio excerpt), "Cannonball," "Safari" (RealAudio excerpt) and "Tipp City," as well as "Mom's Drunk," by Kim Deal's post-Breeders band, the Amps. A spokesperson for 22 Jacks said that while Medeles was expected to play live and probably record with the Breeders, he is expected to return to 22 Jacks when that band regroups next year to record a new album. ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V3 #337 ************************************
