Hey guys...I know that the often-read "I'm drunk and I'm posting" type of posts are dreadfully boring, but i noticed that many people have been including older albums in their "2000 Favourites" lists. If we are doing that, then I have a whole new list. 1. "Pacer" - The Amps (BY FAR my favorite, most played album this year) 2. "Trompe Le Monde" - The Pixies 3. "Return to the Valley of the Go-Go's" - The Go-GO's 4. "OK COMPUTER" - Radiohead 5. "Meddle" - Pink Floyd 6. "Cockamamie" - Jen Trynin 7. "King" - Belly 8. "Susanna Hoffs" - Susanna Hoffs 9. "Pod" - Breeders 10. "Call the Doctor" - Sleater-Kinney That's it folks. The music that has shaped the first year of my millennium. Notable mention goes to: "My Body, The Hand Grenade" - HOLE "Pirate Prude" - HELIUM "Murmurs" - The Murmurs. okay...i'm outta here.. Subject: song from commercial Ok, this is driving me nuts, and I know (hopefully) that someone here will know the answer. It's a commercial for some kind of perfume/cologne and the song starts out like "I left my ___ like a crying child..." Any idea if it's a real song, put into a commercial, or was it made up for the spot? i love the song, and anything you know about it would be greatly appriciated. There's also a cover of that by Sixpence None The Richer, but I think the commercial plays the original version. :) peace, rick "Never kiss in front of other people. At first i had only heard the single "flavour of the weak" over the phone, and was kind of put off at how SR 71-esque it was, but the album really isnt like that at all. There are some really awesome, powerful rock songs on the album. I know im probably biased because i got an advance of the album FROM STACY himself, but it really, truly is awesome. My favorite songs on it are: "Another Perfect Day", "Safer on the Outside", "What About Today", "Wall of Sound", "Hi-Fi Killer", "Scar" and "Dont wait for the sun". they all are really good tho, lol. lots of the songs are obviously about his relationship with Nina. He really, really loves her (just listen to the song "Im a Fool"). its kind of funny (and cool) how devoted to her he is. That is why i call them the greatest couple in rock (at the moment. Kurt & Courtney are the all-time, in my opinion). im pretty sure you can hear clips from the album on their official site. I was going to wait to post about the album since it hasnt been released yet and most pple dont have it, but i really can't contain myself! its so good, and its all i've been listening to lately. if anyone else has heard it, let me know so we can talk about how good it is, lol mike ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Dec 2000 18:29:40 EST From: LilRussianGirl@aol.com Subject: Re: song from commercial I think the missing word is conscience. You may have already heard this story from Kate, Pam, Audrey or Grayson, but we met Nina AGAIN! After the Park West/Cincinatti shows (Cincinatti is is the one where i talked to everyone thru the phone) we really didnt think that we would see Nina again until her next tour. But on Monday, we were talking to Kate and things changed. we decided to go to the Champaign show at the Canopy Club. Since it was on a Wednesday though, we had to leave after school and get home before school started the next day. Kate went to the Cleveland show the night before and asked Nina if she would be able to get Audrey, Pam, Grayson and I in since the show is 18+ and none of us are over 18. She told Kate to go ahead and bring us and that she'd try her best. Well, Canopy Club is in Champaign, about 3 hours from where we live in Palatine. Anyways, Kate picked us all up (thank you SOOO MUCH KATE), and we started heading down there. We got lost a few times, but eventually got there okay (around 7:58- the tickets read 8:00 for the show, so we thought we were late.) . We walked around and found all the busses, and we also heard Palo Alto playing, so we had assumed that the show had already started. Since we thought the show started we told kate to go in since we felt bad. we tried to get in too, but we were ID'd right away. it turned out that the show hadnt started... Pam, Audrey, Grayson and I all waited outside Nina's bus when a guy let us know that Nina was out for Dinner, and that she wasnt in her bus yet... he also let us know that the show opened DOORS at 8:00, but that the actual show would start with Palo Alto at 10pm, and Nina around 11pm. We eventually figured out that Palo Alto was sound checking when we first arrived. So we waited and waited outside Nina's bus from 8-10 (around that). This one really nice lady (that worked at the Canopy Club) asked us what we were doing out there. We were kind of reluctant to tell her that we were waiting for Nina to get us into the show, since we didnt want to get her into trouble. she seemed really nice though, so we let her know. She said that she would do everything she could and that she would let her boss know about it. There was also this kind of jerky guy there too. He worked at the Canopy Club, and we all were really kind of upset with him. He was giving all these girls that he met a free tour of Nina's bus, and then took them to the "downstairs room for cocktails". There were also all these older pple that were getting into the show that didnt know Nina. There was this one lady that was talking to her friend and was like "yea, Nina is that girl that sings "tonight for the rest of my life". we were all just like, "ahem, that is not the name of the song", lol. So anyways, eventually Nina, Stacy, Josh, Mike, and the rest of the band all walked back from wherever they were eating dinner at. Right away Nina looked at us and was like "Hey- its Mike, Pam, Audrey and Grayson!". she remembered our names- ALL OF THEM (it WAS the third time we've met her tho, so i guess eventually that is what happens but still it blows me away!). She told us to wait a little bit and that she'd come out to "talk" to us (we knew what she meant). Stacy was the last one to go in, so i was just like "hey stacy, whats up?". he was like "hey guys.. arent you cold?". i was like "yea... hey, im the guy you talked to over the phone in Cincinatti, remember me?" Then he was like "yeah, Mike right?". He remembered my name too (he also remembered everyone else, but since im writing this i guess its coming out of my point of view, lol). After that he went onto the bus. Pam decided that she really needed to call her mom (Pam's mom needed her home by 12- that wasnt gonna happen). We felt bad, but soon after she left, Stacy came out again to talk to us. She came back really soon tho, so she didnt miss much. We were telling him all about how we really liked American hi-fi and you could tell he was happy about that... I asked him why he changed the name of his band from BMX Girl to American Hi-Fi, and he told me that BMX Girl was his AOL screen name, and that he never really planned on naming the band that. they just needed something to go by, and lots of record companies liked the name and signed him. Stacy and his band never liked the name that much, so eventually they changed it to American Hi-fi (we agreed that we liked it more). Stacy was kind of impressed cus he realized that we were "stacy" fans too, and not just Nina. Audrey and I knew all this stuff about him and his band cus we have been scouring the 'net for stuff about them lately. he was kind of flattered that we thought he was cool. so he went and got his suitcase, opened it and handed me an advance copy of the debut "American Hi-Fi" Cd (its coming out feb. 27th), and he handed Audrey the "Flavor of the Weak" single. (this was probably the second hi-light of the show: getting the album FROM Stacy. The album is REALLY awesome too so far! My favorite song is the track "Safer on the Outside". I call it "stacy's album" since he actually gave it to me. it makes the album so much cooler since it came from him, you know?). i was going to have him sign it, but i felt bad. im kind of over the whole autograph thing anyways. hey, you can talk to them alot more if they arent forced to autograph stuff anyways! plus it kind of seems like they respect you more when you dont ask, too. i was really happy i got that CD.... ever since i talked to Stacy over the phone in Cincinatti i couldnt wait till i could meet him, get the album, and see the band live. so i guess i really didnt have to wait for the album too long, lol. he also told us he'd be on tour soon, and he wanted to see us at the chicago show. We took some pictures with him, and we told him about our dilemma. He told us that he'd make sure Nina would try to get us into the show. he was really cool.. We also asked him if he'd be sticking around for the rest of Nina's shows, and he told us that he would for a little more but that he had some work to get done. he went back into the bus after this. Soon after this, Nina came out (by herself). She really surprised us. She was wearing a yellow tank top and jeans and looked REALLY beautiful. She kind of poked her head out of the bus (she is SOO small, lol.) and started whispering to us what was going to happen. She was like, "i usually only sneak in 1 or 2 pple, but ill try my best to get you guys in." she told us that when the entire band comes out that we should just walk with them into the Canopy Club thru the back entrance as if we were part of the band. We waited for about another hour, missed Palo Alto (wasnt too depressed about that- i wasnt too thrilled with them at Park West but i guess it was cus i was waiting for Nina to come on with such anticipation). Soon enough tho, THE ENTIRE BAND CAME out and said "hi" to us. they were so awesome. Stacy came up to us and was like "awesome, you guys are getting in!". Nina came up to us with the Canopy club guy (the "cocktail" jerk guy) and was talking to him. She was like "hey, these guys here (pointing to us) are my "cousins", (wink wink, lol). we wont have any problems if they come in and watch the show with us backstage do we?". the guy was like, "no prob at all". AAAAAAAHHHH!!! We walked into the Canopy Club thru the back entrance WITH THE BAND!!! We were talking to them the entire time, thanking them. Stacy kind of just patted us on the back and walked into the next room to watch the show as Nina and her band went on Stage. THEY ROCKED, and it was so much cooler seeing the show from backstage. Right when we walked in with the band we could see Kate in the front row cracking up and looking at us. it was really pretty funny. She didnt think we would get in. Anyways, the band played their usual set, but added a few songs!!! guess what 2 VS songs Nina played at the Canopy that she hadn't played before???? "With David Bowie" (she was like, "i havent played this song for 4 years, here ya go") and they also played the intro to "One more page of insencerity please" before the went into "seether" (btw- the Seether was Josh). The show was awesome, and we were rocking backstage right next to the mixing engineer guy (nina came over 2 him a bunch of times and gave him directions and stuff, it was cool). The crowd wasnt very cool tho... At one point as nina was talking, this jerk guy yelled really loud "LOUISE!!!!". Nina didnt say anything.... right before "hold on to me" nina's guitar screwed up a little, so she told the band to make up a song as she fixed it, and all of a sudden some other jerk yelled "NINA BUY A TUNER!!!". We could kind of tell that Nina was pissed cus she went up to the mic and was like "i already have a tuner thank you very much. YOU go buy a tuner". we were just like "yeah! go Nina, you tell him!". Once her set was done, the band exited the stage and Nina came up to us. She was just like "hey guys, i really needed you in the front row again... i didnt like this crowd at all tonight". we could understand too, they were mean to her kind of. Nina and the band went back on for the encore and finished the show. When they were done, they walked back into their bus, and Stacy came up to us again and was like "did you guys have a good time? im really happy you guys got in, you were waiting for a long time." He left with the rest of the band after that, and we motioned to Kate to come backstage with us, and she did. We all exited from the back and waited by Nina's bus again to say bye. Eventually some guy came out of the bus and was like "Nina is going to come out soon, so get everything that you want signed out really quick". i guess Nina wanted it to be a "sign and go" type thing. We let all the pple that were waiting go, since we had already had the time of our lives that night. Josh was out there tho, so we talked to him the entire time. He told us that they would be on tour again really soon once this tour winded down. We wanted to take a picture with him, so we asked this guy to take a picture of us. he was just like "pictures, sure ill take a picture of you guys... ill take lots of pictures, ill take pictures of my genitalia...". I heard it, but i guess audrey didnt so she still gave him her camera. I saw him stick it down his pants, and then give us the finger. He then gave the camera to his wierdo girlfriend, and she took the pic. (she better have taken the pic right that bitch, lol). audrey was disgusted about the camera when i told her (she made us stop at some gas station to clean it, lol). josh was really cool tho, and he talked to us till Nina was free. Right before Nina went back inside, we went up to her and told her how much she rocked and how much we appreciated what she did for us. She was like "no problem guys, and have a really safe trip home" (she knew that we were pretty far away from home- i think that is why she really wanted us to get into the show). Well, the trip home lasted about 3 hours... we left around 2am. Kate drove us all home and we slept in the car. We got back to Palatine pretty late, around 5am. As Kate dropped me off at my house, i freaked cus it was illuminated. EVERY LIGHT WAS ON!! i said bye to kate, and ran inside. My sis was so worried about me, and my mom had gone off to Audrey's house to see if her parents were as worried as she was. By the time my mom got to Audrey's house, she was already home and told my mom i was ok. When she got back to our huse, she started bawling and hugged me. She was really worried about me, and was happy i was alive. whe wasnt mad tho, cus it wasnt really my fault, plus i called her 3 times to let her know i'd be late. she just didnt kno HOW late, lol. I stayed up a little more with her, and told her about my night. She was really happy for me. i felt so bad that i made her worry, but it WAS THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!!! nothing could really bring me down, even tho i felt really bad. im lucky to have really understanding parents. i went to bed around 6am and woke up aroun 7:30 to go to school. I took a caffiene pill that Kate gave me to stay awake, and i was surpised that it worked. Caffeine usually doesnt affect me (i can drink a pot of coffee before i go 2 bed), but it really did keep me awake. I gave the other pill to my mom cus i knew that she got NO SLEEP at all that night cus she was worrying. She had to work 11am-12pm the next day too, so u guess she needed it more than me. i went and worked for her a little after school cus i felt bad, and she had told EVERYONE about how late i got home. we own a restaurant, and she even told all the COOKS and WAITRESSES!! i was kind of embarrased, but oh well. i had the night of my life. hope you guys enjoyed the story mike >> ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V3 #333 ************************************
