That's her. Ironically, those two songs aren't considered to be her best works[1] but they are her most popular in the last little bit. If memory serves, her Leonard Cohen album is supposedly considered her best. At any rate, I'm certainly enjoying the MP3s I found---turns out that I've known more of her back catalog than I knew. One of those artists whose songs you always recognize, but never knew who they were. Anyways, Michael [1] Really? No shit. :P Those songs are awful. The track is 'Green Arrow' from 'I can hear the heart beating as one'. I haven't heard Red House Painters on a GAP ad, but i have heard the Dandy Warhols. Maybe RHP haven't been deemed acceptable for us sensitive Brits! "and i wonder how i've come to know so much less than i knew before" ... Joseph Lee Henry. I have an interview in French weekly arts mag Les Inrockuptibles (back issues of which not available online) in which it briefly mentions she is envious and jealous of Katell. FWIW Natalie Merchant is also a big fan. K.K. lives in N.Y. but is of Welsh/Breton/Irish extraction. Katell's albums are a really compelling, challenging listen. The second of which - 'Jet', is a real masterpiece IMHO. Her albums wander off in all sorts of interesting directions. I agree with a lot of the positive listener comments in her entry at the Ectophiles guide - search at www.smoe.org/ectoguide. Anyway, I just wanted to submit my top ten (ok, fifteen) list for this year. Financially, it's been a rough one for me. But nevertheless, I've been able to buy a few new albums here and there. Who needs food, right? OK, here goes (in no particular order): XTC -- "Wasp Star-Apple Venus Volume 2" Crowded House -- "Afterglow" eels -- "Daisies of the Galaxy" Aimee Mann -- "Bachelor #2" Stew -- "Guest Host" The Masticators -- "Masticate!" Chappaquiddick Skyline -- s/t Elliott Smith -- "Figure 8" PJ Harvey -- "Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea" Sleater-Kinney -- "All Hands On the Bad One" Josh Rouse -- "Home" Michael Penn - "MP4" Tim Finn -- "Say It Is So" Marah -- "Kids in Philly" I got to a few great shows this year, as well. Aimee Mann and Michael Penn's Acoustic Vaudeville show was swell, of course. And, although entirely too short, Stew (of The Negro Problem) was amazing. I got to engage in a little small talk with him and Heidi (also of The Negro Problem) after the show, which solidified my theory that they are two of the coolest people making music right now. If you are lucky enough to catch Stew or TNP live, you won't be disappointed. OK, enough of my gushing. Oh! One more thing ... Yes, Jase, I am going through withdrawal. Liz is interviewed for "Big Brother Magazine", a skateboarding magazine, from May/June 1994. You can find it at my website, but here's a teaser for you: Q: OK, because this is for a skateboard magazine, I have to ask you, what kind of skateboard do you ride? Liz: If I were on a board of any kind, I would be snowboarding. I did have a skateboard -- I stole it from my boyfriend when I was in Oberlin. Shit. Name me the big names, and I'll tell you which one it was.
