We're hoping to spend under $300, but if any of you have experience w/ particular CD re-writers/writers (I don't even think I know the difference! Eeesh!), I'd be oh-so-grateful for any hints or advice! Ease of use, quality & price are of utmost consideration. Other than that, it should be pretty easy to find a CD-RW drive that matches that criteria. Most are around 279$, and its around $30 to install (at least thats the estimate I got). (She's hitting Toronto Jase, so you might want to catch her.) Here are the details: P J Harvey has confirmed a performance at Toronto's Phoenix Theatre on December 1st. The tickets for the show, priced at $20.50, will go on-sale on Thursday, November 23rd and are available by phoning (416) 870 8000 or visiting www.ticketmaster.ca. P J Harvey will make a return visit to New York's Bowery Ballroom on December 11th. Fans can expect to be treated to another intimate rocking performance at the venue, following the success of Harvey's recent gig during CMJ. Tickets for the show, priced at $15, go on-sale on Wednesday November 22nd and are available by calling (212) 269 4849 or on-line at www.ticketweb.com Also, because I've discovered some terrific musicians through recommendations from the list, I thought I'd share some suggestions about a couple of artists whose work I admire. The first is Ember Swift, a young Canadian of immense talent. Ember is frequently compared to Ani Difranco, and while that's not totally inappropriate, Ember is more jazz influenced vs. Ani's initial folk influence. I absolutely adore what she does. She is not for the faint of heart.... Her website is www.emberswift.com Also, about ten days ago, I saw a woman named Eleni Mandell in concert, and found her very compelling. She's from L.A., and I can best describe her as a sort of combined PJ Harvey/Tom Waits/30's cabaret influenced singer and songwriter. If you go to her website, there is a link to a recent concert of hers (from Toronto)where she played a solo acoustic show. (Her two cd's are quite orchestrated.) Very interesting stuff. Her website is www.elenimandell.com Check them out, as we wait for news from Ms. Phair. Happy Thanksgiving to all you U.S. people. Cheers, Gerry _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web. I mean, the guy with 630 pictures on his site is asking where I find 5 or 10? My answer: A few friends who know about my obsessive tendencies and pass me the occasional found link, and a good search engine. Google.com rules. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web.
