I'm 29 and lived in Boston all my life. (Though I just moved to Kansas.) I witnessed the unfortunate evolution of 'FNX turning into BCN. By the time I moved, I had not been listening to Henry and Neil's morning show for a good six months. Sad. And I think Nik Carter should be strung up by his toes. About a year ago, after a couple of years of Liz, Ani, NPR and very little else I was happy listening to, I decided to try a genre I had heard about for a while: alt-country. This is not Shania and Faith Hill and Garth Brooks, but rather a set of musicians that border on the twanginess of country but defy classification. Some other names for the genre I have heard are twangcore, punk country, folk Americana, insurgent country, and -- my favorite -- y'allternative. These bands are the direct descendants of off-the-beaten-track country musicians like Johnny Cash and Hank Williams Sr, and in some circles are wildly, wildly popular. In fact, I asked on this very list for suggestions for bands to start with (thanks to all of you), and that was the beginning of my new music interest, which has mushroomed since then. I'm in the middle of creating an introductory alt-country mix for one Jason Long (owner of this list), and if you're interested, I'd be happy to make you a copy. If you want specific recommendations in the meantime, feel free to email me back. sandra 'you know me well enough to see that if you think you're it you better check with me' - - elizabeth clark phair ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 4 Nov 2000 02:03:44 EST From: Dermich@aol.com Subject: Cursed is BAD Dude, it isn't just you. Subject: guitar tabs Hello, I've been playing guitar for about a year now, and wondering if anyone has tabbed a couple songs I want to learn - Sometimes a Dream Is What Makes You a Slave and One Less Thing from Girlysounds. I'm a beginner, so I haven't quite developed an 'ear' yet, so I was hoping that someone more experienced could kinda steer me in the right direction. Thanks, Jason ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Thousands of Stores. Millions of Products.
