I guess because the show is supposed to be in Chicago, they wanted a "Chicago" artist to do the theme. The show is supposed to be horrible though. Aww, man, to think I'm now going to have to: a) get my VCR fixed, or b) leave work early next Thursday night I'm totally curious to hear this theme song. Does it sound anything at all like Liz's own music? Might it be something that will be officially released at some point, if the show catches on? Maybe a b-side or a track on the new album... But God forbid, just don't let it become the next "I'll Be There For You"... You know, it really is a total mindfuck to think that millions of people heard Liz Phair sing tonight. (Now if only they'd all go out and buy her albums...) Thanks to all who passed along the news. Is Liz now living in California? IThat's what it sounded like someone was saying in the last digest. What with the new theme song and all... Anyways, just curious, anyone listen to Weston? I saw a song by them on Napster about Liz Phair so I checked out some of their stuff, and it rocks!!! It's just great music, and I know they have wonderful taste because of the song about Liz... If they come to your town, SEE THEM!!! hey Chipko, yes, yes, yes...I saw them about a year ago at the Troubador (Sp?) in West Hollywood, CA. Robert and Grant played an acoustic set. And about Liz singing a them song for "must-see-tv", well, good for her. (it's listed on their website as an encore song). Peter the guitarist said, "that's liz phair, isn't it?" they didn't play it. after the show i asked hermann the bassist to play it at maxwells' , he didn't make any promises. when he was going on stage last nite I asked again, he asked me what the chords were... hell, if i know. well, they started off with "Misery Galore" and went right into..."Divorce Song". IT WAS AWESOME!!!!! They played an awesome set, did some plaomine stuff few from dust bunnies, ray ray rain, lots of new and one velvet underground cover. if you live in cambridge or boston they are playing tonite- see them! dana in nj ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Oct 2000 09:53:53 -0700 From: carrma@WellsFargo.COM Subject: RE: Liz singing new TV show theme song "over pavema" wrote: //now let's all wait in eager anticipation for all the 'sell-out' messages we'll get to read over the coming few days...// Actually I heard that Liz's upcoming album will be a collection of corporate jingles, of which the "Cursed theme" is the first single. Advance copies of "An Evening With..." depict a typical nuclear family huddled around the T.V. on the cover and the track list on back reads like a copy of T.V. Guide. Other tracks from the albums include songs for Charmin, Swiffer Sweepers, and a host of Procter & Gamble products as well several more theme songs including one for "Fly Guys", a mid-season replacement sitcom, starring Scott Baio and Gary Coleman as two stewards trying to make it in the female dominated field of flight attending. On the night before the album's release date (slated for 1st quarter 2001), Liz phans will be able to preview the entire album by flipping though channels at the appropriate times to catch the various themes and commercials while enjoying a wonderful line up of must see t.v. There is a heated debate on whether or not this latest effort is a clever 'concept album' commenting on commercialism and consumer culture at the dawn of the 21st century or if it just means Liz signed her soul away to the highest bidder (but hey, even if it were true, she has a family to feed, right?). What ever your position, critics and fans agree, her Mr. Clean spot is one of her catchiest and focused works in years. Calgon, Take me away! I was sitting there last night thinking, "Damn this sounds like Liz." But I didn't really picture her doing that. But *shrug* I guess it is her! I think that's cool though. It definitely adds something to the show which was, I thought, rather lacking in anything very interesting. Erin - ----Original Message Follows---- From: "Daaaaan Theman" To: support-system@smoe.org Subject: Liz theme song! Date: Thu, 26 Oct 2000 20:39:50 EDT This is such a crazy coincidence, I NEVER, EVER watch TV, but I turned it on to NBC last night and right after "friends" ended I hear Liz! She was singing the theme song to a stupid new show "Cursed". It was way retro, kinda jazzy, but it had multiple voice parts that she sang. That's all. Don't know if she wrote it, but she sounded great. Capitol is probably already starting to promote the new CD. The move to LA at least is giving Liz some well deserved attention, but TV theme songs? I guess it's one way of crossing over. Anyway, that's all for now. - -Dan _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ATG is a subsidiary of Artist Management Group, which is Liz's management company. No doubt Liz's buffoon manager, Scott McGhee, thought this was some kind of brilliant example of business synergy. Aimee Mann does soundtracks for Academy nominated movies. Liz has to settle for singing a ditty for a shitty sitcom that stars that guy from wings. That makes me sad.
