I just got a supernova 45 which came with a most interesting piece of fiction. It looks like a press release, and reads for one (mostly). I will transcribe: "But then, Liz Phair's tale itself is a fairy tale. A distant descendant of Marie Antoinette, Phair spent her formative years in a preparatory academy for girls in the south of France, 'where I was taught to be a well-mannered young lady and aspired to a suitable marriage. I knew how to wear a strand of pearls at just the right lenght," she recalss, somewhat wistfully. "But of course, I fell from grace. I'd taken and independent study in wine fermenting, and was caught in a compromising position with a barrel boy. Then there was that wacky incident when I set free a whole kennel of impounded pups, crying 'for shame, for shame, run free my brothers, my sons.' I was like Heidi with a little more money and a penchant for substance abuse.' Happily, Phair was extricated from disgrace by a prominent suburban Chicago family, and she went on to recieve the kind of first-class liberal arts education requireed to play the rock 'n' roll game. The rest-her self-released "Girly sound" cassettes, her signing to Matador-is history." Also, another section reads:"Frankly, we didn't expect to be sending you this record, as Ms. Phair became the toast of A&R Departments everywhere. When she was spotted around Los Angeles towering over the Artist-Formerly Knonwn as Prince the idently of her new record company was no longer a secret, but then Paisley Park went under. The collaborative composition "Supernova" is all that remains of that star-crossed coupling. Matador was happy to have her back, and fortunately, after much cajoling, Atlantic President Danny Goldberg agreed to distribute "whip-smart" in exchange for CD-Rom rights to the next Chain Gang record. I leave you all with this for discussion.... sarah __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages & get email alerts with Yahoo! To the delight of **ev* *is** and others, I have updated Mesmerizing again (although it's a minor update). I've added that elusive Out magazine article from July/August 1994 -- it's been around for awhile, but I never had the issue in my hands until now. And for the first time (I think), the picture from that article is now available for your viewing pleasure at the picture section (along with a scan from an old New York Times article). Yes, two pictures. I'm trying... - -Ken kenmlee@ix.netcom.com MeSmErIzInG - AnOtHeR LiZ PhAiR WeBsItE http://www.geocities.com/SunestStrip/Club/2471/ ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V3 #259 ************************************
