The band Kittie - who had that song BRACKISH - which I didn't really care for, kind of strike me as like - a hardcore, female Hanson. I mean, sure sure, they are rockin', loud, they wear black lipstick and dye their hair fucked up colours - but - I always thought of them as geared towards a younger crowd...I don't know why..like, the type of band that a 15 year old goth girl would win tickets to through "SEVENTEEN" magazine or something. Perhaps that is just me being judgemental becuz they are so young. But whatever. My question is about the album. Does anyone have the album? Is it any good? The reason I ask is becuz I am hoooked on the song "Charlotte" by them. I think it is FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!! Like, musically, lyrically - everything! It's great! The more I hear it the more I love it. I am just curious as to what the rest of the album sounds like. "Charlotte" strikes me as a mature song. Are the other songs as mature? I really hope they don't sound as Looped up as "Brackish" - that song was flat out horrible - it had potential - but it was just much too looped up. It was so Obvious they weren't singing the fast parts everytime, but instead were pushing a button when the queue came. I know lots of artists do this and I am completely rambling now and I probably sound as stupid as that one guy on here who always uses all those tremendous spaces when he posts - but whatever. I wanna know if I am being a dick head and missing out on a cool band. So get back to me kitten fans... Dan. Vic Chesnutt's new CD on merriment records is amazing. Please support him. So what is the liz news? When is the CD going to arrive? Did anyone else go to the Sonic Youth show with Pearl Jam. I was so excited to see SY and no one around me could care less they were there. It was a mausoleum. Kim was dancing like a teenager and perforeming like a champ and no one harldly clapped. I guess they are used to that, but it hurt my feelings. well later NP: Lambchop - nixon _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. But > whatever. I totally agree with you. Kittie makes me think of all the good predecssor bands who get passed over by the media for the second rate, more media friendly ones. I have two examples: The Donnas vs. Kittie and Liz vs. Alanis. The Donnas vs. Kittie: I was a child of the big-hair bands musical influence, drawing "Def Leppard" and "Bon Jovi" on my folders while other kids drew hearts around the names of their fave NKOTB. Being born to parents who rock out, as a rule, it is only fitting that the Donnas be one of my favorite bands. The Donnas, for those who dont know them, are four glammed out, balls to the wall rocking chicks, all around the age of 21. Their musical style went from (their 1st album in Jr. year of HS) Ramones-eque pop-punk with their 1st s/t album, which their producer Raffianelli helped write and arrange; to metal (around age 19, as 2 members were starting college) with American Teenage Rock N Roll Machine; to flat out GLAM ROCK with their 3rd album, Get Skintight, which they wrote completely themselves, with ass kicking results. They got their first and largest media exposure on MTV, in 98 i think, with one of those spolights that 1515 does on bands. That was closely followed by a bit part in Jawbreaker, and that by another as a club band in Drive Me Crazy. I dont understand why they arent the media's darlings, with thier sexy glam rock style and the ability they have to be rock's answer to the influx of boy-bands and teeny-divas, as well as rock's SAVIOUR! Kittie, on the other hand, I dont know much about. I did see them on MTV, in one of the same spotlight segments, and wasn't too impressed. I never am by those thrash bands, being that most of their songs are 2 minutes long, depressing, and incoherent. All you hear of Kittie's performance of Brackish was "ROHROHROH ROH ROH ROH RAAAAAAAROAH!!!" I dont like songs I cant sing along to, nevermind NOT UNDERSTAND. Their style is a lot different from the Donnas, with fishnet stockings, goopy eye makeup, and otherwise "gothic" attire. Why, when they are so unflattering, less talented (anyone who wants to argue this only has to listen to Alison R's guitar work on "Get Skintight" to realise that she is the next Jimmy Page) and unsexy, are they more popular? Are there -that- many more skinny gothic girls than rock and rollers alive? This is just my opinion however, and since I don't know that much of Kittie's work, maybe I dont have room to talk. There's also Liz vs. Alanis: I know that there are alot of Alanis fans on the list, so I will try to be as nice as possible when talking about this. Liz basically turned the music world on its ear, from what I understand, when she came out in 92/93 with EIG. Everyone was shocked that a woman would be so blunt in her music and her views on sex. She got a whole buttload of critical acclaim, scant airtime, then was forgotten for a while. Then in 95/96, Alanis comes out and GASP puts the f word in a song, as well as talk about sex in a blunt and painfully honest way, and YAY she's the 1st woman of rock! and all other women in rock owe everyting to her, as she paved the way...Meanwhile Liz is over in the corner with Juvenilia, raising her hand like "HELLO, WHO wrote the song Fuck and Run????" Although I think that the major women of the rock movement (Sarah, Tori, Bjork) came into fame of their own volition, not riding someone's coattails, if anyone paved the way for women in rock, it would have to be Phair. Why does Alanis get all the credit??? Just a rambling question going on in my head. > My question is about the album. Does anyone have the album? Is it any good? > The reason I ask is becuz I am hoooked on the song "Charlotte" by them. I > think it is FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!! Like, musically, lyrically - everything! > It's great! I agree with Dan. I didnt like any of Kittie's other stuff, but Charlotte is a damn good song. Whats the rest of the album like? I should stop talking now. xoxo ana "Writing and directing are for free.
