Thanks for thinking of me and letting me know! I actually did find out about the show earlier tonight while I was on the Ticketmaster site for something else, and I definitely plan on going. I'm just kind of let down by the fact that the doors open at 5:30 and the show is supposed to be over at 9:00. Major buzzkill. Normally that the time the doors are opening at most shows, and I can't imagine leaving a show while it's still not even dark out. Really, I'd have to find something else to do afterwards to even be able to call it a night. Not to say that I'm not looking forward to going... I just wish the show wasn't at the Guvernment, which from what I've heard is a club (never been there). I guess they plan on doing business as usual once the show's over and they've cleared everyone out. It may make it easier to meet the band afterwards, though. Anyone else plan on seeing Elastica when they're in Toronto? Or is there anyone who plans to attend the Sleater-Kinney show on September 19 at the Opera House? This is such an awesome question...very much a tradition for the liz digest, isn't it?? Anyway, I too cannot accurately say that these 5 are my favorite cuz I still have not heard PJ's "Stories...." Bjork's "SelmaSongs" (which is only gonna be 7 trax long) Poe's new album, or Radiohead's "Kid A". And I am sure there are others in there that are up and coming. But - so far at the halfway mark, my faves are: 1. Sleater-Kinney - "All Hands on the Bad One" 2. Lil Kim - "The Notorious K.I.M." 3. Smashing PUmpkins - "Machina" 4. Veruca Salt - "Resolver" - Even though I thought it was merely loud ear-candy when I first bought this album, I have to admit - I listened to it on repeat WAAAAAAAAAAy too many times. This is definetely one of my favorite albums of the new millennium. 5. ---------- I could put Juliana in there, "Beautiful Creature" - but I am leaving it blank out of respect for all the artists who didn't get to release one yet....I really love BEAUTIFUL CREATURE - but to say it is one of my faves might be a bit of an over-statement. The past few months I haven't been listening to too much new music. I've been heavy into Kim Deal and the Amps and Pixies and Breeders...the whole Deal Dynasty. And I've been big on the MURMURS. So...I guess we all have a lot to look forward to in September, album-wise. Hey - even Madonna is bringing a new one out!!! You never know...might be cool. By the way - I agree with Steve on the Big Thumbs Down to Nina Gordon. Try as I may - I just flat out can't get into this album. I mean, sure, she sounds good - but that stupid computer thing with her voice....some of the stupid lyrics...the sheer shimmer bubble effect of it...I don't know. Since this is the same woman who wrote songs like "AURORA" "EARTHCROSSER" and "Benjamin" - I thought we were in for a bit more of an interesting album than the one we got. But that's just me. PS - The new ELASTICA is really fun!! Enjoying it quite a bit. Thanks for the cool review Jase - you were right on the money!! If anyone is in for a good, fun, "ELASTICA-style" album - definetely pick it up!! I think my new fave song by them now is "Nothing Stays the Same". Sooooo beautiful!! I think it is gonna be the kind of album that I end up loving in a really strange way - like WHIP-SMart. It just has an odd sound of it's own. anyway, I'm out... What's been playing lately in my cd player? Paul McCartney's Ram. Anyhoo...stuff I'm looking forward to seeing: Joan Osborne, The Wallflowers, Bjork and the Cell soundtrack. Who knows when for any new material from Liz, Sarah McLachlan and Sheryl Crow. Ram on..
