I was hoping by now we would have heard some more news about Liz's new album, and I'm sure once some surfaces, we'll have a lot more to talk about. I'm getting kind of worried, though. It seems to me that if the album really was going to be released before the end of the year, we would know a lot more about it by now. We're in the second half of July already, and most labels rush to release highly-anticipated albums before the end of November. December is traditionally a quiet month for new releases. That leaves just four months for Liz's record to come out in, and if it really were going to be that soon, I would have to think we'd have heard more about it already. After all, _whitechocolatespaceegg_ was generating press several months prior to its release. Of course, it's always possible that Liz wants to take a more low-key approach in releasing this album and doesn't want to do as much publicity as last time. I guess all we can do is wait and see. Lately, it's been _Whip-Smart_, which has been spending a lot of time in the CD changer, although I've listened to _Exile_ a couple of times while walking to and from work this week. >2.) Who have you been listening most to while awaiting the new Liz? Definitely Aimee Mann -- I still can't get enough of _Bachelor No. 2_ and it's probably going to overtake _I'm With Stupid_ as my favorite Aimee album soon. I've also been listening to the Replacements' _Tim_ a lot, as well as the new Sleater-Kinney album and Kristin Hersh's _Sky Motel_. >3.) What previously unreleased song do you hope DOESN'T make it to the new >album? At this point, I'll more than happily take anything Liz decides to release, but that said, I'm still not all that keen on "Stranger." I like it much better in its original incarnation as "Hello, Sailor." The rewritten lyrics just don't translate as well. Of course, it is quite possible that Liz will make further changes before releasing it. What I hope will make the album is "Beginning to See the Light" and "You Have No Idea." I know these songs date back a few years now, but they are both incredible and I'd love to hear studio versions of them. Also, if Liz were to dip back into the Girly Sound vault, I'd love to hear a new version of "If I Ever Pay You Back," which is probably my favorite of all those songs. And it's almost a crime that "Blood Keeper" still hasn't been released. >4.) What month do you expect the new album in? I just hope my instincts are wrong and the album will be out before the end of the year. Otherwise, hopefully as soon after the new year as possible -- January or February would be great. >My responses: >3. Firewalker (I've played it to death!) You know, although I do like "Firewalker," I've never felt all that strongly about it until recently. I played it for the first time in ages not too long ago, and ever since then, it's been stuck in my head. I'm starting to think it would make a great single -- it doesn't have the most obvious hook, but it still manages to lodge itself into your head effortlessly. That better be on there! Jase on Firewalker: If Firewalker became a single, I'm sure it would get renewed vigor in my eyes. Just listening to the coupla versions I have though, I've done it to death. Jase on Aimee: God, you're so right. Bachelor No. 2 is so fall down-wonderful. Wouldn't Susan make a hellacatchy single? paige- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Jul 2000 21:21:16 -0400 From: Melissa Goldfinger Subject: Poll 1) Girlysound...
