The minus: Liz only played for about 30 minutes (4 songs?). The plus: The autograph line was way too long, so my ex-girlfriend and I hung out right next to the signing table (about 10 feet from Liz), and watched her sign and chat for half an hour. That's what I'll remember. Another plus: Sarah and Natalie were great. Another minus: It was July during a record-setting summer in Dallas (110°). Jason p.s. I found an autographed copy of Juliana Hatfield's "Become What You Are" for $2.99 at a used CD store. Apparently they didn't notice the signature. Should've played Lotto that day. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2000 02:09:02 PDT From: "Chipko Arnold" Subject: 4th of july With all this talk of Luna (darn fine band), i thought i'd share this. I got to do the 4th of July segue the other day, on that day in fact. Confused? Well, it's simple. Take the Aimee Mann song and press play... now the tricky bit, you'll need another cd player!... insert Galaxie 500 'this is our music' and select track 1 '4th of July'... as you have 2 cd players you should have a mix desk of some sort... now open the fader on the G500 and when Aimee sings the last word 'her', on the very last 'rrr', press play on G500... sit back and smile. If in doubt how it sounds you can listen on www.spydaradio.co.uk/radio and look on the archives for a Mr Arnold for 4th july.. It's quite near the start of the show. Aimee plays London tonight, but i might miss it as it's too expensive(£18!!) Also, Lauren Hoffman played Lilleth Fair at some point, sorry to harp on about her, but she is darn fine. Anyone else heard the Saint Low album? It's Mary Lorson from Madder Rose's sole stuff, very beautiful. Off to look for summer, it hasn't hit the UK yet, i last saw her in Seattle, maybe she's stayed there, it's a bettre place to be. 'let go of your heart, let go of your head', 'looking back in time you know it's clear that i've been blind, i've been a fool'. At last those words won't be lost. "and i wonder how i've come to know so much less than i knew before" ... Joseph Lee Henry. "i know the promise is so much better than the real thing" ... Grand Drive. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2000 06:50:28 -0400 (EDT) From: Riot Poof Subject: ahaha >Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to infiltrate the free >show disguised as a Tara Mclean fan. I'm not friends anymore with 2 people I went to the shows with. Those two ended up being gossiping catty friends. You know girls. But I'm still friends with the other people I went with. So, for me I remember that stuff as sorta bittersweet memories. As for music, here are my highs and lows: Highs: I saw Liz at the first show I went to in Camden, NJ. She was awesome. Indigo Girls are GREAT and I mean GREAT performers that really induce the audience to be happy to be there. At the end of the 1st one me and one of my now ex-friends got lost finding our other two and when we were getting lost we saw the Lilith bus ride away and Natalie Merchant reached out the window to touch her fans. Unlike some people here, I like Sheryl Crow and thought she gave an electrifying show on the last one. I found a new band on the 2nd stage show during the first concert I went to: Did anyone else see the Mediaeval Babes? They sing like stuff you'd hear at the Renaissance Faire. I bought their CD and Love it! All the free stuff like Biore things and CDs were pretty nice too. During the first one it rained on our way into the show. We caught rain in shot glasses given to us. Weird but fun. LOWS: Missy Elliot isn't my favorite musician, but her performance was kinda neat. Dixie Chicks. Their music's happy but I don't go for them too much. $$$ food Not many of our side show people were good. I would have liked to have seen Luscious Jackson or someone better. I missed the Pretenders cause my friend and I got involved looking at booths. People were smoking pot right near our area. Well, that's all my memories :) Jen " We are going to have the best-educated American people in the world." - - Vice President Dan Quayle ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2000 06:53:50 -0700 (PDT) From: Gabriel Peterson Subject: OT: Beastie Boys Things are kinda slow here so I don't feel guilty announcing that the Beastie Boys are releasing a DVD Anthology which should be pretty crazy. There will be 18 videos but 40 remixes to the songs that you can switch to just as you switch from English to French during a movie (not that you DO but you CAN). The coolest thing though is that they're remixing the songs into the 5.1 format (five speakers plus a subwoofer like in most movie theatres now). I think that 5.1 for music is still at a rather gimmiky stage but the Beastie Boys will probably be able to pull it off because they are very talented but they have fun with their music and don't take themselves too seriously. It should be interesting, Gabe __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get Yahoo! I loved both and the first one was right before wcse was released and much like a snickers bar it satisfied me and I was able to wait the few more days for the album. Pros year 1 - Jones Beach: I saw her warm up and she danced around all cute. I had to stick my head through bars for this. It was my first time seeing her live because my first attempt to go to NYC to see her was a big flop. (no babysitting jobs that week=no money) Cons: my seat was so far away I couldn't tell who was who on stage. I screamed a lot anyway. She also played a shorter set than everyone else and was the opener:( Year two - Cuyahoga falls Ohio - I went through hell to get to this show. Well, maybe not hell, but it was really hot and I was heckled by people. I took the Greyhound with my trusty travel buddy Mike to Cleveland. Cleveland Doesn't rock. Then we fought our way on to the bus south to Akron. Then we took a public bus back north to the cuyahoga falls area. The locals were nice, but laughed at us. We got off at some weird factory.. Gojo Industries. Then no cab would come to get us so we walked 2 miles in a ditch on the side of the road while people in their cars on the way to lilith yelled obnoxious things at us. We finally got there and our seats were pretty good. Comfy and happy we paid 7 bucks a for a hot dog and soda and relaxed. Pros: better seats, nice venue. Liz played new stuff! She was much more confident and she chatted with the crowd a bit more. I think some people were getting into the music at least. Cons: Everything else. Liz opening again. More "Liz Who?" from everyone. I heard from another list member (mark?) that the bathrooms had become disgusting by the end of the day because women dumped maxi pads in a big pile due to lack of empty garbage cans. I avoided the bathroom.. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2000 11:28:10 -0700 (PDT) From: Sarah Scott Subject: looking for eric fleming I need to contact eric fleming, is he still on this list? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
