Guess who I saw on friday night at sumemrfest? the one and only.... VERUCA SALT!! IT was all so last minute too. Never before in my life have i ever heard of Milwaukee's "summerfest" before (probably because i live in the burbs of chicago). But anyways, my friend called me up friday after work and told me, so we left right away. We get to this place and guess what? IT WAS ONLY 10 FUCKING BUCKS! It was around 8 o'clock, and we immediately went to the stage. there was fucking NO ON THERE YET, except for a few other die hard fans that took the front row. anyways, my friends and i sat 3rd row center, less then 10 feet away from the stage! the band that played before them was "Simi" or something, and they were ok, but once they finished, the entire place filled up with pple. So Veruca comes on, and starts of with "Dont Make Me Prove IT". Before i say anything else, let me just give you an idea of the lineup they played: all hail me seether (an awesome slow version) im taking europe with me celebrate you victrola spiderman '79 (i was so fucking happy when they played this!) born entertainer wet suit only you know used to know her pretty boys hellraiser straight valcano girls dont make me prove it shutterbug besides that, louise made some awesome comments. she told the girls to "never let guys control their lives" and of course guys started booing, so then she was like "oh no, dont get me wrong, I love the dick, its just once you get it you'll never let go of it". she also made a comment about the old VS. During one song she said something like "nina, louise, and the drummer, never compared to Jim". anyone know why she'd say this? at one point she also made out with Suzanne. something else that was really cool was that louise took a bunch of polaroids of the crowd, and threw them into the crowd. she also took a few of herself. i almost got one, but this other girl right in front of me did. they were also signing that day, but my friends and i got there too late for that. i made a comment about how Louise looks really different from the old VS days, and this jerk behind me was like "yea, 40 pounds different", my friends and i were so mad, and he totally knew it... i think she looks good with her few extra pounds. she wears them well, lol now to the exciting part. after their set (they also came out for an encore) my friends and i went near the backstage entrance, because this really nice girl said that they'd let us in. well, they didnt let us in. in fact, they were pretty nasty to us, saying things like "i cant wait til 12, so we can kick out they sorry asses", but we still didnt leave. all of a sudden, VS's DRUMMER (i forget his name...) came out, to let a bunch of his friends in, and we asked him if he could let us back there. he said he couldnt do that, but that he'd tell the rest of the band to come meet us. he was really cool, and about 10 minutes later, GUESS WHO CAME OUT???? Suzanne and Steve!!! Steve jumped over the fence to come talk to use, and he stayed with us for like, a half an hour! he was really genuinely nice (even tho you could tell he was high on something)... you could tell he was really appreciative of his job in VS. i asked him what his favorite "resolver" song was, and it was the same as mine "only you know". i also told him that Q101 NEVER plays them, and that i request them almost every day. he told me that James Van Osdol (the asshole that never plays my songs) really liked Nina, and that he didnt like Louise. He also added in that most stations didnt like "born entertainer". then i went and talked to Suzanne, who was talking to an "old highschool buddy". i mentioned that i was from chicago (or a chicago suburb called Palatine) and she got all happy, and started a conversation with me!!! she was letting me in on all these awesome clubs to go to, and she was telling me stories about her old high school, that is, according to Suzanne, "the WORST high school in chicago". she was also telling me what i should do to get good gigs if i ever start a band. What was especially nice of her tho, was that she tried to get us all backstage to meet Louise. She asked the security guard to let us back, but he wouldnt let us. then she started to get pretty mad at him, and was like "who do i need to ask to get these kids backstage", and the guy was like "you cant get them backstage", and by then she was really pissed, so she said it again, in a really fuck-you way to the security guard "WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO GET THEM BACKSTAGE". well, we didnt get backstage, but she did stay and talk to us a while longer. she also let me know of a VERY hush hush Chicago date in august that I'm not supposed to let anyone know of. Steve kissed two of my friends on the cheek, and told us we were all cool. i got both of their autographs. we didnt meet Louise, but it was still a really cool night. the funny thing is that it was all last minute. saturday night we went to see "No Doubt" which was 35 bucks, and my friends and i were all joking about how VS put on such a better show for 10 bucks. Gwen Stefani has a really good stage presence tho, and "no doubt" can put on a show.... well, there is my VS story! After about 5 minutes of flipping around on it I was pretty much ready to throw the headphones off and go wash out my ears. It's not like it was total crap but it really seemed "soft". And then I heard she was opening for Savage Garden..... (I guess all the boy bands already had openers) Mike Marlatt BMO NESBITT BURNS Tel: 443-1622 Fax:443-1524 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 11:29:13 EDT From: Danaldj@aol.com Subject: Bettie Serveert and Divorce Song Hey guys - I was just at BettieServeert.com and on the first page they have the set list from a recent show where the encore included Divorce Song!! I know they have done this before- but I just wanted to share it with you all. Also on their album Venus in Furs , there is a song listed as, "Beginning to See the Light"- any similarity? or just a coincidence? Well, they have a new album that is out in europe and will be out here in September on Parasol/Hidden Agenda records- since Matador dropped them-(Idiots). Anyway, just thought i'd share cos I know there are some Bettie fans out there- (Hey Tad!!) Lynda- Luna are awesome- and your story just goes to prove that they are cool people too- which is nice cos it sucks when you meet bands you really love and they are jerks!----Did they play "Sweet Child o'Mine"?
