For what it's worth Bilboard gave Nina's album an excelent review, and didn't seem to think she was the next Britney. In fact they urged radio programers to open their ears because this was just non commercial enough to meet resistance. She's being marketed to AAA stations first, not Britney territory, too adult. I can't wait to get this album, the single sounds fine to me. Even if I suspect that this is one of those 'in a better world' situations. Damn >you, Gates!) oh yeah, i'll second that. death cab for cutie fucking rules. and i, like mike mentioned, am one of those people who think the first album is better than the second (which is still good, nonetheless). people, check out this band & album "something about airplanes." the last song, "line of best fit," will reduce you to tears, it is so gorgeous, i swear. - -vasant vr1@cec.wustl.edu http://vasant.tsx.org ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2000 06:52:48 -0500 From: "Wendy Bryant" Subject: "on the list" let me just say that show is dumb! the same damn people win all the time. so, the should become more inventive or quite making the show. its getting boring to watch. a few times they have metioned ani difranco. that was amazing. um, arms in a protective shield, is there anybody else out there who DOES NOT like joni mitchell? her voice drives me insane. PEACE ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2000 10:47:52 EDT From: "Morgan Hartsell" Subject: re: ot: new nina Okay, regarding Nina Gordon's album, when I last posted I was so giddy and dazed based on just the sheer fact that I *Finally* had the album in my hands. But after a few listens, i have a slightly more objective opinion. "Now I can Die" is a really fun, poppy song, as is "2003", but i really think "Hold On To Me" is just too cheesy and airy, and the lyrics leave much to be desired. Oh, and the cheesy-ass intro to "fade To Black" makes me wince every time I hear it. The song "tonight and the rest of my life" is beautiful and powerful, and i actually think it was a decent choice for a single. Video, anyone??? And I reeeeeeally want to *love* "Horses in The City", but it just aint happening. I do looooove "Badway", "hate Your Way", "Number One Camera", and I like "Got Me Down", but the demo version of that song that was on the net last year is sooooooooooooo, soooooo much better. And last but not least, Nina only plays guitar on TWO SONGS?!?!?!?!??!? What is the reasoning behind that????? That's all the Nina ranting until the next album... It was a teeny little club and I was three feet away from her! She totally rocked! I was thinking that Liz Phair doesn't play tiny little venues like that anymore, but I was surprised that Juliana Hatfield would because she's pretty famous also. It would be so amazing to see Liz Phair play in a teeny little place, although I would probably hyperventilate and pass out if I was so close to her! But anyway, seeing girlz and their guitars always inspires me and I wish I was able to write play my own music. I'll just have to collaborate with my brother, the guitar hound. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2000 12:11:39 EDT From: "Andrea Steiner" Subject: Juliana Hatfield I know I only post stuff about Liz Phair, but I just wanted to say that I saw Juliana Hatfield last nite at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ. Sleater Kinney, of course, Cadallaca- (S-kinney side project)- their new E.P. is on KRS- the last one was on K records- also a great label and most of K's and KRS's artists go back and forth between the 2 labels which seem VERY closely linked. Sean Na Na, Mary Lou lord, Bratmobile (who are supposedly getting back together) Deep Lust (Allison Wolfe from Bratmobile) The Bangs- new album is called "Sweet Revenge" Sue p. Fox, who does some really cool spoken word stuff has a new album coming out this summer. Heavens to Betsy old Elliott Smith stuff Danielle Howle K Records is also great and recently put out a new album by Mirah-it's great!!! she sounds Just Like - Little Red Car Wreck! Her album reminds me a lot of the Little Red Car Wreck album "Motor Like a Mother"- I swear i thought it was the same person. Check it out! Also on K- Lois, lois is awesome! (and she had a new album out with Brendan Canty of Fugazi, but don't be fooled bcos there is NO fugazi influence on this album) Other new cool stuff for those interested- BLONDE REDHEAD!!!!!!!! Awesome!!! Broadcast....sounds very similar to Stereolab... who also have a new one out The Delgados Shannon Wright Belle & Sebastian Apples in Stereo Star Ghost Dog and of course Juliana hatfield--Beautiful creature saw her last night, when people shouted out for "nirvana" she started playing "Smells Like Teen Spirit"!! Then later the guitarist started playing "roadhouse blues" but she didn't sing it. he said the night before she actually sang "love me two times'"...well, half of it..then stopped! Other than 2 songs from "bed" and "my sister", but you guys probably know that by now and have talked about it since she's at the end of the tour. Death Cab for Cutie's new album is awesome and, i think, better than the last. They said people used to think they were a metal band because they had Death in their name! that's it dp in nj ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V3 #175 ************************************
