Yeah, that's true, but I think I can safely say that most people in this world won't ever know Steve Albini on a personal level, and so all they'll be able to judge is the music he records (NOT "produces"). And I must say, unless you know someone on a personal level (or have lots and lots of really convincing evidence), you can't make a judgment about whether or not he/she is "a decent human being". Yes, there is discussion about whether his recordings of PJ are "the best" or whatever, but I can honestly say, I've been quite pleased with almost all of the albums he's recorded -- for many artists, I find that Albini-recorded albums are their "best" to date. (Yes, I realize that this is MY OWN opinion, not some sacred fact or anything.) I happen to think (again, my own opinion) that Albini is an excellent recording engineer for people (bands) who have a fairly established sound and pretty much know what they're trying to do -- as opposed to someone who's just looking for the Albini stamp on his album. Albini is the type of engineer who doesn't impose in recordings, doesn't tell the artist what to do, and for someone who might be looking for that, Steve probably isn't the guy to go to. (It's funny, most of the time I lurk, but when the topic turns to Steve, I start posting again. . . . hi everyone :) Catherine ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Jun 2000 07:31:47 -0700 (PDT) From: robert joyner Subject: janet rains cd For those of you out there that are interested, Liz Phair's touring back-up singer, Janet Rains, will be putting out an ep cd of some of her work.
