I was browsing a site, looking at various pictures of Tara MacLean and thinking "Bill Bell must be one of the luckiest motherfuckers in the world" when I read this. The answer is no. Never. Not in a million years. I'm just an arrogant son-of-a-bitch with a Denis Leary-trained sense of humor, refined by long exposure to P. J. O'Rourke and Hunter S. Thompson. Look at it this way: Ambassor Duke with hair and sans cigarette. Maybe you _should_ be able to ask that question without any grief--but this is reality, and you can't. Sucks for you. > yr latest post has made me wonder why would anyone feel that way >and maybe i havent paid enough attention to the list maybe you have >stated yr sexuality before and i didnt realize it cause i dont >care if yr gay or not but i have to wonder now cause you act like >there is no man musician out there worth listenin to I have not stated such to this list. It's none of their damn business and I would have thought that it's nothing anyone on this list would have given a damn about, but that obviously isn't true because I'm sitting here writing this. Unlike some people, I don't feel the need to fucking trumpet something as basic and private as that to anyone and everyone. It's my own fucking business, and as previously stated, I'm stunned that you'd gather up the cojones to ask. Paul Kantner and company from Jefferson Airplane are about the only guys at the moment who I'd be more than apathetic about. Bruce Hornsby earns 'native son' status [1], but I do dislike it when he's political, which is often. > kurt cobain changed music as we know it wheather you want to belive it >or not Read the SSD archives at SMOE.ORG, and you'll see something I posted to the list recently about Cobain. I don't particularly miss him, but I do wish his wife had possessed the common decency to join her husband. Hell, I'd be willing to buy her a twelve-gauge ticket. > mathew sweet is a man of music that should not be over looked I'm not impressed with Matthew Sweet. Is that somehow an 'indicator' of sexual preference? Does the fact that I don't gaze wistfully at Justin fucking Timberlake somehow make me like Barney Frank or Nathan Lane? I should think not; indeed, it should absolutely beyond a shadow of a doubt confirm the exact diametrical _opposite_. I'll overlook Matthew Sweet if I damn well please. > i >i mean damn the beatles for godsakes the beach boys all of them >are men With regards to the Beatles, one down---and three to go. I only wish Yoko had cared enough to stop one of those bullets. Bleh on the Beach Boys---whichever one has the high voice should undergo genetic testing like they did at the '84 Olympics when some women were sent home for failing the genetic test. XX or XY? :P > i am not sayin women arent equally good shit... look at patsy >cline, janis joplin, joan baiez, joni mitchell and these are just a few >that i feel like mentioning out of the millions and billions of >talented female musicians Don't forget Elizabeth Clark Phair etc--I simply prefer hearing their voices. Is that a problem? With regards to the particular artists you listed, here goes: Sorry she's dead, glad she's dead, AREN'T YOU DEAD?, the living dead....etc. > maybe i am jumpin the gun but damn i just read yr post and thought it was very thoughtless Oh well. Not my problem. I thought yours was pretty thoughtless. Stalemate. > yr opinion is different then mine that is fine but i >think maybe that you may be jaded by what mtv has given you and/or im being a prick and you have the right to yr own opinion but i had >to reply bro its all good Damn right I'm entitled to my opinion. Whether or not you're entitled to yours is entirely negotiable. I've watched maybe four hours of MTV since it came on the air, and most of that being 'Beavis and Butt-head' when I was still in high school. Can't be jaded by what I don't see. At any rate, jaded, cynical, and bitter is much more fun than starry-eyed arms-wide-open love-all as an outlook. Quoting that droid in Episode I, "Uh...that does not compute." But unfortunately, I'm not toting a blaster rifle. Michael [1] Bruce Hornsby has considerable ties to the Commonwealth of Virginia, which is also my residence. As if anyone cared. As a final aside, have the concepts of 'hyperbole' and 'overexaggeration' ever occurred to you? Go look up 'gonzo journalism' and perhaps you'll find the answers you seek. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 Jun 2000 01:36:47 EDT From: Random828@aol.com Subject: support-system-digest V3 #148 Mark said, <> I think it depends on the pressing. My original "porno Barbie" EIG has a smooth looking cover, but the non-Barbie version I bought at Lilith Fair 2 so Liz could sign it (my prized possession) has a distinctly pixely appearance. Steve said, <> Yes, it's true! Poe finally has a new CD coming out July 11. First Jane Jensen, and now Poe. This is shaping up as The Summer of Fine Female Rockers Who Are Releasing New Stuff When You'd Practically Given Them Up For Dead. Life is sweet. Now if only they'll go on tour....and oh, yeah, an actual release date for "An Evening With" would be pretty keen, too. For me it's so much of a balance, but my preferences are more with female artists. However, I'm obsessed with REM and other male artists like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Dylan, etc. are not bad at all. Lyrically I can relate to women artists more than male artists. What would we do without Liz or Sheryl or Tori? So, really, it's a balance. Why choose? Jen "Oh I saw the whole thing. First concert I ever saw was the Cure in Portland at a club when I was 16. My Mom didn't know I was going, and if she'd *have* know, wouldn't have allowed it. This was *way* back in 1986... They rocked. It was the tour that coincided (Don't quote me on this, I just remember they weren't that popular stateside yet, and they played songs from it) with the release of "Head On The Door". Tons of hairspray. Loads of cigarette smoke. Quite a bit of black clothing. And me. It was one of the best concert "experiences" I've ever had, even though the sound quality wasn't the greatest. Have fun!! ~gunshy~ Shelly NP: Faith Hill "It Matters To Me" (Don't worry, I *still* dig the Cure) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 Jun 2000 14:55:07 EDT From: Nelsewhere@aol.com Subject: Hey Fiona fans..... I never thought about it for real..I mean, I have heard about the whole GIRL ROCK, GUY ROCK - but I don't usually categorize my artists by sex. For example, one of my favorite bands EVER is the TOADIES. I have never once thought: "Gee..toadies are *SUCH* a good *Guy* band. I'm so glad they are guys and musicians. I love the Toadies - a very superb guy band." Nor have I ever thought: "Wow.. Liz Phair is such a wonderful *Woman Singer*. IT's soo cool that Liz Phair is a girl - and a singer.I love her for being a girl." Toadies, Smashing Pumpkins, Tori Amos, Eve's Plum, Murmurs, Matthew Sweet, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Juliana Hatfield, PJ Harvey, Weezer, Breeders, Pixies, Radiohead, Lil Kim, Go-Go's, Busta Ryhmes, Portishead, Tricky, Rage Against The Machine, Sleater-Kinney, MOTHER fucking ROXETTE!! It's all music to me... I *COULDN'T pick my favorite artist-type based on sex alone. Each one has songs that relate to me in different ways - beyond sex. it's all rock and roll... I couldn't pick music by sex - it has almost little or no bearing for me. If someone can rock out - I honestly do NOT give a shit. BY the way - whoever started the thread - I'm not knocking you - just giving my 2 cents on the subject. I could see if someone prefers males to females, or females to males - completely. Some people just happen to like all girls or all boys - I don't think it is sexist of them - it just happens that way. I like them all equally..I really DO NOT think I could pick any over any other. OF course - I would pick Liz Phair over ANYONE - but all the same - If it came down to GIRLs or BOYS - GOD! I would blow my head off! I could NOT do it! If someone can do it - more power to you - My music taste is just ALL OVER the place - I can't draw a line. If they rock - they rock. I think in this day and age - both boys and girls proved they can equally rock out. It's all a matter of who has the talent, personally - rather than by sex or gender. saw Juliana last night...loved it - met STeve on the list - HI AGAIN STEVE!!! Very cool guy!! :) Until he threw eggs at Juliana and I had to throw him out. just kidding... okay, I'm gone...bye..
