What are your top 2 or 3 experiences that stemmed from Dr. Jason's monster? Here are mine: a) The immortal Liz show at Lounge Ax last year. Incredible. Front row, center. Met Liz and fun/nice people like Craig, Jason, Katie, Janet. That was fun x fun. b) I have learned about and fallen in love with several bands from your good advice. Sleater-Kinney, Aimee Mann, Yo La Tengo are grat examples. Thanks Jason and others. c) LizPhest in 3 weeks!! I get to meet more Liz kindred spirits. What fun, plus a Cubs game at Wrigley. Pinch me. 2) Gingerbread. Genderthread. I have recently noticed that the majority of my CD buys of the last years have been women. Hear them roar!! It is a trend I can trace back to Liz and EIG. That gave way to PJ Harvey, Lucinda Williams, Tori Amos, Beth Orton, et al. Before this female tide, my stuff was most male laden....Smiths, Clash, Pixies, Replacements. What gives? Why do women singers appeal more to me now? Is it the better songwriting? Is it the better voices? Is it just plain lust? So, here's the thread, man. Which would you choose if you could only have one gender for the rest of your lif/and why do you choose that side. If you go female, sorry, no Nirvana or Smashing Pumpkins. If you go male, say goodbye to Liz and Sleater-Kinney. What will it be, male or female crooners? Jorge in Dallas __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I began to wonder is everyone's is like this or is mine special. the other day I was in th CD store and I looked to see if there were any there. there happened to be a copy of the CD and on the fron and side it was spelled Juvenalia. I'm curoius as to how it's spelled on all of your Cds and I would like someone to explain WHY if he/she knows. erica ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 May 2000 14:46:42 EDT From: Emo5858@aol.com Subject: Re: OT: this discussion scares me. Are you never going to be happy? When is good enough, enough? You know this seems fairly calm compared to prior discussions. This doesn't appear to be a "flame war", but more so a discussion. For the most part, with a few exceptions people are staying calm, and quite simply saying what they feel in civilized ways. What more do you want? >I just want to draw an analogy. To me, Steve's posting was as if 10 >years ago he had come on and said "this guy Kurt Cobain is a TOTAL >loser! Look at the lyrics from this song "polly"! They talk about >liking >to tie up a girl and RAPE her!!!" And then everyone on the list >was like >"oh,okay, I sure as hell won't listen to Nirvana!!!!!" That's >what scares >me. Interesting analogy, except for the fact(or what i perceive as) that i don't think anyone who listened to Eminem before is now going to say they are not going to because of this or that. I own his first album. I listen to it frequently, and i refuse to draw a conclusion that the other one should be pulled from the shelves, or not bought, or what-ever until i've actually heard the album myself. I don't know what this says about me, if anything, except that since i've listened to him perviously so i'm familiar with his sarcasm, and familiar with the idea that you have to actually hear what he's saying and which one his smart-ass voices he's saying it in before you can decide that he is in fact bashing gays...you know i my humble opinion. Now i'm not saying that makes it right. There are other ways to sell your album, but...i also somehow feel that he didn't put this or that on his album to sell it. I mean i'm sure to some extent ever artist at some point puts something on their album to sell it..but all the same....but anyhow, i don't think that people are going to just decide they hate him suddenly because of what Steve(i belive it was) said. Did that make any sense..i doubt it, but you know, what-ever.
