It could be worse - we could have people faking email addresses again :-) Quitting the list doesn't accomplish anything, so if Jase need to put some rules (and enforced punishment) in to keep things civil, that's fine by me. This list and its various incarnations over the last 5 years have been a great source of non-liz music recommendations - which have put me onto some very cool bands - so I have no probs with the off topic discussion. one more thing - the photos I took at the Juliana Hatfield show @ Fez last month didn't come out too well (www.netspace.net.au/~cerebus/photos.html) so if anyone who attended that gig took some better ones, please get in touch. cheers chris ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 May 2000 10:59:19 -0400 (EDT) From: "Size 8 Today, Size 4 Tomorrow?" Subject: Calvin College I just wanted to say that I was at that Calvin College concert, and it was really strange to begin with that such a college wanted her to play. Then, while she was performing, some management person ran on stage and seemed to get in an argument with her. He seemed to be trying to convince her to play different songs, and the only thing I caught was Liz saying, "No, I'm gonna play 6'1"." I thought that was neat. Carrying on private flame wars on a public message board is not >a >good thing to do. Okay, this conversation is just as relentless as any flame war that's gone on. Have you been reading the list? Have you noticed the calmness that surrounds it? Have you noticed there's no offensive posts, not discussions of who's better than who or who started the fire?! Did it occur to you that we already have taken into consideration what the complainers are saying? OBVIOUSLY?! Now this isn't a personal attack on the person who posted the above or an attack on anybody for that matter, so don't feel inclined. I'm just saying...HELLO? We get it... I nominate this as the most FUN album of the new millennium. The opener is ABSOLUTELY classic!!!! "The Same Person" I think is a combo gimmick/shot at Nina - not a "shot" as in, inslut - but a shot as in - - "hey, i didn't change my style a bit..." it sooo slow, and piano-ish, almost something like JEWEL (barf) then, it just stops and "Born Entertainer" kicks in....and I swear - I can see the reviews now: "It is obvious, by track 2 with the gritty guitars and killer bass lines Louise is still the 'same person..'". Too much. Other high points for me are "Disconnected", "Best You Can Get", "Used to Know Her" and the fireworks style ending "Hellraiser". Great album. It didn't lose the VerucA flavour a single bit. Also - Calvin College is a weird fuckin school. I saw liz there last april, and we got there TOO early (like 5 hours, i insisted) and there was NO ONE there..like,I'm not even sure if the STAFF was there yet..so we were all walking around, and we saw a student and we were like "Hey, do you know where we could get a beer around her??" and so HELP ME GOD - the 20-something chirstian kid gave us all this confused look as if he were about to say "I don't understand....what is beer?" It was then I saw the steeple, the church on campus, the crusifixes, the priests..and it all made sense... *SIGH* poor Calvin College. anyway, Dan. %&%&%&%&%%%%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&% "I don't have a case, that's why I have a hammer." -Farrah Fawcett, "Extremities." *******************************^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 May 2000 15:28:46 EDT From: Emo5858@aol.com Subject: Girlysounds, WCSE sessions...? His web site is called: 'Mesmerizing' http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Club/2471/ You can find recent news about liz and related artists. <> It is an original release ep with the song 'Jelousy', 6 previously unreleased tracks from girlysounds, and a Vapors cover called 'Turning Japenese'. It was recently put out of print by Atlantic along with the supernova single, so now both are rare and hard to find items for liz fans. Thank you. It does to me and it's annoying, I can't stand Stefani's voice in the song and I find myself humming to Liz's song at work. The joy of having the song played in the movie theater lobby. Ugh...and I thought radio was terrible, it's the only song on the laserdisc. *shivers* Katie ();) ===== ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ "Twenty thousand faceless names, this is your show." - Chantal Kreviazuk __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
