I've said it before and i'll probably say it again...Lauren Hoffman. Check her out, she's as good as Liz. yes, really. Check out the website at www.forlauren.com Also Kelly Hogan kicks butt. Her new album is wonderful (beneath the country underdog) and her voice'll make you weep. ..Off to see Lou Barlow tonight. He's playing solo and i'm going alone. For some reason i keep thinking i'm in a Smiths song. Oh well, still looking for hope in a city of despair. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 May 2000 08:21:23 -0400 From: "Brian P. Otherwise, don't post just to complain about it -- that's far less constructive and a heck of a lot more annoying than the off-topic posts themselves are. Annoyed lately, Jase zoinks, jase!! i'm not upset about it, it was just an observation! actually, it is sort of funny to see threads sprawl on indefinitely on indefinitely: "she sucks!" The only cover that keeps popping into my head at this moment is The Doors' Greatest Hits cover, with the bare chested Jim Morrison on it. Oh-la-la. :) As for the female cover, I'll have to go with Sheryl Crow's second cover. It's a call to arms. It sounds like it was recorded completely live. Corin's voice is loud and beautiful again, Carrie does riffs like a maniac, and Janet's drumming is the best thing about it. And they are rioting again. Go out and buy it; it's intense and the greatest thing I've heard all year. Well, except for Oops ... I Did it Again. No, just kidding. Really. I mean how appropriate is that?! I'm definately going to be at that show if Liz will be there. Anyone else going? >>If a Liz box set were ever to be released, what rare material or demos would you want to see included?<< Well, a quality sounding Girlysounds release would be at the top of the list. Also, the WCSE sessions, and pretty much any type of demo/unreleased tracks from the Whip-Smart recording session. I'm sure Liz has a ton of personal demos that she has recorded at her home over the years that we know nothing about. It wqould be really cool to hear some of that stuff. Pretty much anything not found on any bootlegs that we have never heard before would be great to hear. Craig NP: Neil Young - Freedom __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Jake ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 03 May 2000 13:18:22 -0400 From: Dan Subject: threads and things I really do wish Liz would release an OFFICIAL Phairities compiliation - I think Liz Phair is the ULTIMATE person for a release like this, only because she has SOOOOOO much material, all us fans KNOW the songs, love the songs - even have semi-decent to horribly crappy copies of the songs..but we don't know much behind them. ALl these lost songs and soundtrack songs don't really have a history...are they out-takes? Were they written specifically for the particular soundtrack they were released on? What is the story behind them?? Wouldn't a compilation, released on CD with a groovy little inlay booklet giving a brief bio on each song be incredibly amazing...? "Carnivore" needs a wider release.... get Rocket Boy, Don't Have Time, Greased Lightening, Hurrican Cindy, Wasted (was there ever a studio version? I don't think so), Freak of Nature, Waiting for the Bird, "Erecting a Movie Star" which I am in love with - and then she could toss on a few new songs, as well as other classics - like "YOU HAVE NO IDEA", "Beginning to See The Light" - I mean, think about it - these are all songs which are in many ways - CLASSIC Liz Phair songs...yet, they do not really belong to an album..especially the last 2 - which are soo brilliant, and possibly my favorite liz songs, period. THey need a home - an official home. I think this would be something COMPLETELY embraced by Liz Phans - it would most likely do as well as any of her other albums... she could even have some nifty little name for it... like, an "album-style" name, but all us hardcore fans would get the "in" reference...She could call it "I'm Like That" - that would ROCK!! anyway... BY the way - WHEN IN THE NAME OF GOD - is she going to do a studio version of "Sometimes a Dream (Is What Makes You A SLave)"? I am completely keeping my fingers crossed.... crossing my fingers for real, no, like REALLY, Dan. %&%&%&%&%%%%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&%&% "I don't have a case, that's why I have a hammer." -Farrah Fawcett, "Extremities." *******************************^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 May 2000 15:42:53 -0400 From: "andy" Subject: RE: threads and things > and then she could toss > on a few new songs, as well as other classics - like "YOU HAVE NO IDEA", > "Beginning to See The Light" - I mean, think about it - these are all > songs which are in many ways - CLASSIC Liz Phair songs...yet, they do not > really belong to an album..especially the last 2 - which are soo > brilliant, > and possibly my favorite liz songs, period.
