So, actually, she was trying to take all of the credit, leaving Billy out. Anyway, you, as a Hole fan, should be very thankful for Billy. He's the one who discovered Melissa in the first place and got her started. I'm a big Hole fan myself, so I'm not totally bashing them. I just don't think it's fair to say that Billy is this major asshole just because he gets done what he wants to get done. It's how he works and he has created some amazing albums from it. ANYWAY, to the person asking about their tour (wcseliz@yahoo.com) I haven't seen them on this tour (except for Billy's solo show in Chapel Hill) but I have seen them four or five times before and they play a great show live. You're going to love them. Also, I will be at the May 8th show in Orlando too! It should be awesome. Only a couple more weeks! See ya there! LIKE - AN EMBARASSINGLY BIG AMOUNT OF ZERO LIZ CONTENT! The answer is simple: Women want their tattoos to be feminine and pretty, and men want their tattoos to be all butch and tough-guy. JUST KIDDING! I'm not a sexist! hahah , but I do understand what you mean Katie...there does seem to be a bit of a pattern in the places where boys/girls choose to put tattoos. Myself, I have three... one on my shoulder (girl-spot) one on my upper arm (cliche boy-spot) and one on my lower stomach....which I am assuming would be a girl spot. If you ask me, (and the gals I know who have tattoos in the so-called "girl-spots") - it is simply because they don't want them to show when they wear a dress, or any kind of sleevless outfit or bathing suit.. I mean, sure it looks cool - at least I think so - take a look at Bjork! That compass is to DIE for, smack dab in the middle of her upper arm!! But all the same, I don't know many girls who want a big ole tribal symbol for orgasm jutting out of their Bride's Maid gown. It blows, most people don't care..but all the same, if I was a gal - hell, I *KNOW* i'd be a dyke ala Ani DiFranco style... but all the same, if I was a gal, I'm not sure if I would want a yucky tattoo on my arm. My arm tattoo shows only when I wear a short sleeve shirt...but, god forbid, if I ever did have to wear a dress, it would not look all that feminine. If I was ever going to be a drag queen (god forbid) I would FOR SURE use a shit load of cover up, to give me a smoother, more feminine look. It sounds terribly sexist, but think about it.. It shouldn't be this way, but it is - when we see a girl with a tattoo on her upper arm, and she is wearing a pink ballgown (like gwen paltrow) - the tattoo really does stand out as a contrast. It almost makes the pink dress look dirty or something... i don't know, it suits some people (Joan Jett) but others, it just wouldn't work... Me, I don't care. I think ANYONE with a tattoo is sexy...as long as it isn't fucking HELLO KITTY or something. I say we should break this sexist stereotype! GIRLS - go out RIGHT NOW and get a big ole tattoo dead center chest! Or directly on yer upper arm, and pop on a tank top!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess the bottom line is sexism, isn't it? A tattoo on the arm, isn't a feminine thing. That sucks. *****DISCLAIMER****** The views expressed above were merely observations. Values instilled in me from a very young age by a warped and gutless society. They do not reflect my own enlightened thoughts on women, men or tattoos. I say - pierce, brand, bleach and tattoo away!! IT's only skin!! It'll grow back. Oh wait..it won't. Take it easy on the piercings too...no one likes someone with a metallic face. And too many tattoos is fucking nasty. When someone's skin starts looking like a worn out piece of painted leather, you know they've gone a bit too far. TATTOO QUESTION re: MUSIC.. Do any of the following have tattoos, if so, what and where? Tori Amos? Courtney Love? PJ Harvey? the women of Sleater-Kinney? David Bowie? I saw American Psycho, which I liked, even though it really disturbed me and I had nightmares about the part where the girl is running down the stairs and Patrick's got the chainsaw....ahhh can't even talk about it....anyway I agree that Christian Bale was incredible in the role. Fucking scary as all hell. A friend of mine met him the other night, and I realized that if I saw him somewhere I would probably run the other way because, you know, he might kill me. Just kidding. So, I am also reading Ellis' Glamorama. I found a Liz reference! It's on page 157 when Victor is talking about what music he wants played in the background of his MTV interview, and he names "Supergrass, Menswear, Offspring, Phish, Liz Phair (Supernova), maybe Pearl Jam or Rage Against the Machine or even Imperial Teen." I liked how Liz is the only one dignified with an actual song title, too. ~Emily ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Apr 2000 17:51:58 -0400 From: Melissa Leigh Subject: da youngins I started out as a young fan, too. EIG came out in 93 and I was only ...damn I was I guess 14? maybe 15? I loved Liz's music as much then as I do now, but as I've gotten older I think I have a deeper appreciation of it and less of a fanatical obsession (okay, only slightly less). Many people say it's not possible to truly understand and appreciate music during your teen years when everything is over dramatized in your life, but I think teens who listen to music outside the mainstream (this does NOT include marilynn manson, etc.) have matured a little faster than their counterparts and have enough insight and empathy to enjoy Liz's music beyond " yo, she's hot, She just said 'fuck'!" However, the worst thing about being a young fan is that your parents would never let you go to shows and often the clubs aren't all ages. Advice to young fans: when you're sneaking out don't tell your siblings. They'll rat on you. Re birthday wishes: Sending birthday wishes even though the receiver may never actually get them is not necessarily about whether the birthday girl gets them or not. Dead people can't smell the flowers you put on their graves, it's just a nice symbolic gesture of caring. Besides, Liz may actually read the list especially since back issues are available online.
