Personally, I would rather see Brad help with the producing. I think he has been great for Liz. I thinking that having collaborators is never a bad thing. Anyhow she needs someone to play bass and drums. (I think Brad's drum work really makes Straford-on-Guy great). Hey, is Tortoise dead? Well, if Liz is sick of Brad, what about Bob Mould. I saw him last month at the Showbox in Seattle and he was great. Bob knows how to make good pop (eg. Sugar) and he has a great musical mind. I think he would be a good match for Liz. Does anyone know? Liz isn't on the album, though Louise Post is. I think the album's pretty good. It sounds a lot like UO's last album "Exit the Dragon," with the same type combo of big '70s riffs and soul singers. Then again, not too many people liked UO much when they were around, which might explain the reaction to the solo album. I've got a tattoo on my ankle and i'm a bloke! I've also got one on my wrist, so what does that say!!! I wouldn't mind one on my arm, but as they're all skinny and spindly it wouldn't look good. Maybe only big muscly armed guys get tattooed there, whereas all us skinny runty types get done elsewhere. Also, where do you get your tattoos? I mean geographical losation. I figure you shouldn't get a tat in your home town. If you get it in a far off location it'll be a permanent reminder of where you were. Both mine were obtained in Seattle at very specific times. After all, they're a permanent reminder of a part of your life. Meanwhile, i'm off to try and decide what the 3rd one she be! need to consult a cartoonist friend. Katie asked: "Soo...is it one of those things with sexes having their preferences or what? Any comments or opinions are greatly appreciated, I'd love to hear them. Katie ();)" Well Katie, I don't know about anyone else here...but I was 18 when I got my tattoo (I'm 30 now--no, I don't regret it and yes, I'd like another). So, that was back in 1988, so times were a *little* bit different, not like when about 5 years or so ago when tattooing became very popular among younger adults. Anyway, when I went to the tattoo parlor *see, I doubt they even call them parlors anymore*, the lady that did mine was a rather, uh, trying to say this in a polite way, "butchy" looking chick. She was really cool, and when she asked where I wanted to put it, I pointed to a spot up on my shoulder, so that even if I wore really short sleeves, the whole world couldn't see it. It is of a tabby striped like cat with bright green eyes (sort of like the cheshire cat, big smile & all) with an ahnk around it's neck like a necklace sort of--it was my own design & had some personal meaning. Anyway, she proceeded to tell me, "Oh honey, you don't want to put a tat on your arm, makes girls look butch." Well, I'm really atheletic, and quite tomboyish (we DO live on a farm & work like a dog), and I didn't want any further confusion, so I decided to put it up & over the shoulder about 5 inches. It's nearly covered by my bra-strap & most swimwear. But, I didn't get mine for everyone to see. It's mine. So, the motive may have been a bit different. The next one I get will be on my ankle, but I just don't know if I'll ever get it. Woah, sorry so long... ~gunshy~ Shelly NP: Sgt. She covered the AC/DC number no problem. She plays and sings so hard, I think she could cover any metal or grunge band convincingly. I can easily imagine her leaving a trail of guys behind her, which is what that song was about. I think it might almost be worth being part of that trail to experience her energy one-on-one. She had a way of making it seem like she was looking right at you, right into you, as she performed. And the way she danced and gyrated on stage ... . I'm listening to Bonham's The Burdens of Being Upright now--it's the one with Mother, Mother on it. I can easily imagine Liz covering any of these numbers. Okay, there's my Liz content. I would have loved to stay all afternoon last Saturday to see the other acts, but we'd already made plans to see the Blue-White scrimmage. Oh, well. Now I have to go talk to my students about death. It's just tough to find the time these days. I can't believe I forgot about Liz's birthday. I'm so ashamed...but I'll recover. I'm glad to see more info about the album creeping forward. Hopefully, we'll all know something concrete very soon. So what's the consensus on "American Psycho?" I loved it, but I've talked to several people who just didn't care for it. Whatever your feelings on the film and its themes, you can't deny that Christian Bale nailed the part. I thought his whole performance was brilliant. I'm in the middle of reading "Glamorama" right now. The verdict is still out, but it's getting interesting. I like how Ellis keeps all his novels connected through the characters. "Rules of Attraction" is still probably my fave, though. Check it out. Finally able to get out and purchase soom new tunes yesterday. Picked up Elliot Smith, of course (going to see him in May in Nashville - can't wait!), Travis (I highly recommend this one - great stuff), and after hearing Chan throw down some Velvet Underground, I had to get Cat Power's covers album. Overall, a quality day. Anyone gotten Built to Spill's Live one yet? What's the verdict? Can't buy everything, you know. Hey Sandra, what was that .com you were talking about last post? I accidentally deleted it already. What a great service! Sadly, must get back to work. tedford __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send online invitations with Yahoo!
