Coincidentally.... that warning applies to this posting too... heh I just finished reading a sci-fi novel - "Circuit of Heaven" by Dennis Danvers, and was completely surprised by the numerous references to Aimee Mann. Takes place some 80 years in the future when the "real" world is fairly empty after 95% of the population opts to enter a virtual one a la "The Matrix" (minus all the impossible jumps, slowing down bullets, etc). Anyways, both protaganists are huge Aimee Mann fans.... the main character in the "real" world scavenging for Aimee CDs, and the love interest in the "virtual" world who happens to be a singer who covers Aimee's songs, not to mention is described to look remarkably like her.... When they meet, Aimee's kinda their "connection".... Anyways, it's a pretty good read, imho... :-) All I need to do now is find a novel with lots of Liz references... :-) heheh later Patrick ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Apr 2000 11:31:21 EDT From: "Jen Lott" Subject: No Doubt I've lost interest in No Doubt now that they have become so popular with the teenage crowd. Paging Steve Kisko! hey y'all, sent you each an email using addresses from a while ago ... if you don't get one from me, please mail me off list! thanks! on another topic, i've got a question for those who have seen/read High Fidelity: As a 29-year-old girl who hasn't met the perfect man yet, and who also knows that 98 percent of the men I meet probably won't qualify (just being realistic -- how many people are we REALLY compatible with, after all?), and the older i get the more i realize i would prefer not to waste time, I'm thinking that I can guage whether or not I am on the same page with someone, at least at a basic level, by whether or not they loved High Fidelity. Pretentious? Snobby? Unrealistic? that's my question, really. It's sort of the theme of the book/movie, I know ... it's not what you're like but who you like ... and I know it's kind of a guy-thing, but that's really the way I always felt, and since it's encapsulated so well in the movie, well, then, I won't have to bother explaining it to people. "Getting" that movie can be such an indication of where somebody's head is at. For example, I met a guy on a ski trip who was really nice, good looking, polite, sweet, etc. Gave me his card, asked me to please call him. But he had never even *heard* of Liz. I certainly don't expect the world to love Liz; she is an acquired taste. But to not even know she exists? Well, I never called. hmmmm. being obtuse but incapable of explaining myself further at this time, sandra NP: Elliott Smith, XO __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Johnson" Subject: Tracy Bonham at Penn State By pure luck, I found out from a local LGB listserv that Tracy Bonham was playing a free outdoor concert this afternoon at Penn State. It took my brother-in-law and I so long to get our families on the road that we only got to see the second half hour of her show, but, boy, what a treat! Contrary to the forecast of clouds, chilliness, and drizzle, we had bright sunshine and temps in the 70s. The audience was quite small for what I consider to be a big-name act, so we were able to get really close to Bonham. The band was loud enough that even outside you could feel the music in your entire body as well as hear it. The amount of energy generated by this short, slender woman was unreal. My favorite numbers were Navy Bean and Waif. I still can't get over this unexpected delight. Well written songs, awesome lyrics, and some really catchy hooks!! I can understand your losing interest of a band after they become really popular ~ but No Doubt is STILL writing their OWN music - they're not so engineered as Backstreet Boys, etc. Well anyways!! ~Paul ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V3 #100 ************************************
