Remember REM always said they were going to break up at the millenium, but they are putting out great music (Up kicked ass). For the most part artists lose their creativity or relelvance as they age; it will be interesing to see where Liz goes with her next album. Any thoughts on this? Now I hope Kate Salenbach (sp?) makes a solo album, she's always been my favorite member of that band. What isn't a rumor, but fact is that Soul Coughing broke up. A shame, cool band. I have a question / request. In the Netherlands, there is the often lamented (by me, that is) absolute lack of things' Liz - set aside the one-time recording session by DJ's with advanced forms of music taste from VPRO-radio that led to the publication of the song "Animal Girl" on Juvenillia. There is one radio-DJ in Luxembourg that aires Liz every now and then, that I hear about since friends there now I am a fan. They are not, strangely enough. Co-incidence or not? I see these two countries mentioned as causing heavy traffic at the now-disfunct web site that offered MP3's of Liz her public sessions. It is these "unique recordings", that I wanted to ask you about. Some time ago there was talk about a tape-tree of live recordings, I think from last summer or so. I am not sure it ever happened, but am ofcourse, still curious. Now, are these "more recent" live recordings available on MP3 format and would people want to "share" these with "others" by using "napster"? I have no idea, but I can imagine there would be quite a number of "us" that would appreciate that. Looking forward to your reply.. So now I like him even more than I previously. And I loved the movie. Also, the movie is filmed in part in Wicker Park, the infamous neighborhood where Liz lived at one time. The record store in the movie is located there and the film includes shots of the Damen el station and various other Wicker Park landmarks. Just yesterday, did i get to see Magnolia, and, for the past two weeks, i have been listening to the soundtrack, my sole introduction to Aimee Mann. my first, i mean VERY first impressions of the much discussed Aimee Mann, were "hmmm....very polished, very very good voice and very like Chrissie whateverhernameis from The Pretenders. All these 'attributes' are some of the very reasons why i LOVE Liz...she is not overly polished; i have heard 'better' voices (let's face it, if i wanted a 'good voice' i'd have Mariah Carey in my collection); and last, but not least, Liz sounds like (and writes like) NOONE i know. BUT...first impressions aside, and many, many replays of the soundtrack later, i find myself singing "Save Me", in the shower, and more importantly, nothing else, not even Liz, has managed to shift Magnolia from my player in recent days. i know (due to the multitude of Aimee fans out there, and due to the earlier release of Magnolia in America) that all this has been discussed before, so, once again please pardon any repeated or boring offerings from me. i just wanted to say, that i LOVED the soundtrack in the movie, but i still have not made up my mind about the cast singing along to "Wise Up"....just a tad surreal from me..(and i'm a Cohen Bros and David Lynch fan..!!) what i especially loved was the use of "Save Me" at the end, and the lovely smile that Claudia gives..(oh, and YES YES YES, Tom Cruise in his undies...sigh). okay, just wanted to share those thoughts with y'all...any suggestions as to other Aimee stuff i might like to listen to..?? :) Aoife _____________________________________________ Free email with personality!
