Falk" Subject: screw you guys, i love albini you know, i don't care what albini thinks about my favorite female vocalist. if he and liz phair want to feud for the rest of their lives it means nothing to me. i got my own problems. maybe he's a good producer, maybe not. whatever. lost in all of this is that steve albini the recording artist was an amazing talent. for those of you who weren't even freakin born then, big black was one of the most original and creative bands of the punk-industrial 80's. steve albini, who did all the writing and arrangements for that band, is one of the few artists who ever did as much for me as liz phair. the albums, "atomizer," and "songs about fucking" were really ahead of their time. really dark and sinister, but still first-rate. this whole little firestorm is funny to me, because before big black, albini was a music writer doing reviews and such. of course, being an arrogant dick (note that i never said he wasn't)he panned practically everything. so people got all pissed off, and called him names, and said he could never do it himself, etc., etc. then he started his band, and it turned out he could do it. that everyone shut up for awhile, but the band ran it's course (as liz phair will surely do someday, if she already hasn't- sometimes i wonder) and after trying one last time with the less interesting band "rapeman" albini hung it up and started producing. now here we go again. i just wish the criticism would get so intense that he would start recording again. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Mar 2000 06:47:10 -0800 (PST) From: Craig King Subject: Lounge Ax anniversary KB wrote: >>anyone else, jorge, craig, jase, janet? (p.s. hi janet!!) are jill sutton and brian belbis still around?<< Ahhh!!!! I was just thinking of this the other day! My, how fast a year goes. It seems like just yesterday I was freezing my ass off for 2 hours in 20 degree weather after driving almost 3 hours from Milwaukee to get tickets for the Lounge Ax show, only to find out it was sold out, and then having the owner print me up two more tickets even after it was sold out after hearing my sob story. I am entirely gratefull to her! Anyways, that weekend was something I'll never forget. Meeting all of my fellow Lounge Axers like Jorge, KB, Jase, Janet, Jill, ect.... who were all really cool, seeing an awesome show, meeting Liz.... I think I may have to pop the Lounge Ax boot into my CD player to honor the 1 year anniversary...... You obviously never heard last year's debut by Ashley Hamilton's band. Weiland figured prominently on that disc (according to liner notes and press releases), and it was a mess. But that's no reason to hate the man. He just got out of rehab (along with everyone else on the disc, apparently), and his judgement was clouded. A guy like him has a hard time performing while straight. Mikey C Va Beach __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo!
