Steve Albini *loathes* Liz and has had nothing but negative things to say about her in the past.<< I honestly was not aware that Albini felt this way about Liz. Screw him!!!! Since this is the case, this is now obviously a horrible choice for producer. I do still love "12 Bar Blues" by Scott Weiland that he helped to produce. My vote once again goes for Rick Ruben. I love the albums he has produced and I think he would do a great job. Nothing against Bob Rock personally, I just don't care for alot of the albums he has produced. He wouldn't be the worst choice, but I don't think he'd be the best choice either. Maybe it's just me...... Hmm....I don't know about that, >but maybe I should check out Cat Power...I know people have mentioned her on >the list before. What do you Cat Power fans out there think? i enjoy cat power more than liz. but the 2 are so different it's barely worth comparing them. chan's vox are more in the vain of PJ Harvey/Jeff Magnum (my housemate says she sounds like a dying woman). her songs are less conventional constructs (often without choruses) and much more intense. her last 2 albums (Moon Pix and What Would The COmmunity Think) are brilliant, and her upcoming album (The Covers Record) is absolutely stunning. her versions of the Stones "I can't get no satisfaction" and VU's "I found a reason" are mesmerizing. i recommend checking her out. xjimmy ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Mar 2000 07:55:16 -0800 (PST) From: dream Subject: any word from steve? hi, am new here. i had a great time reading that page about steve albini's view of liz' music..era 1993. any of you know how steve feels about liz' music now? especially now that we all know that liz isn't just a for 1993, born of hype, musician.. - - no0ne http://noone.tsx.org __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Never did I ever mean to start such a ruckus, although I do have to say that I'm glad the angry focus was on someone other than me (as self-absorbed as that may be). I was unaware of Mr. Albini's feelings about Liz. I was merely thinking that he did a great job with Veruca Salt's "Blow It Out Your Ass" record. In fact, Veruca Salt was also the reason I brought up Bob Rock. "Eight Arms To Hold You" was a Bob Rock Production that I particularly enjoyed. Before all this blows up any further I also wanted to clue you all in on an up-and-coming singer that I just found out about. I'm almost embarrassed to say that I just found out about her because I like to think that my ear is to the ground on music here. However, Shalini is apparently from the next town over from where I live and work. Her stuff is very good, but not spectacular. However, while reading her bio, I discovered that she too is a Liz fan. Amazing how this world works. Her first single "Telepathic World" is not nearly as good as "Emotional Bomb" which is probably what I would have started with, but to each his (in this case her) own. She's being produced by Mitch Easter I believe, another good choice for Liz if you ask me. I stumbled onto this from a list of showcase acts at the SXSW this year. I'll be looking forward to seeing her and Stargazer Lily. I suppose I've reached my rambling quota for the day. I converted someone with Whip-smart...I agree that EIG isn't for everyone...I love it, but i think people would more likely be converted by Whip_Smart or WCSE 2.) I think she secretly does. but i think I would play WCSE 3.) What Liz song should be on your answering machine? Girl's Room would be pretty funny for why you weren't answering the phone... I don't know really 4.) What Liz song would you ask for if allowed to pick ONE? As hard of a decision as this is, Perfect World. I would like to hear FLower too though. 5.) What one Liz song do you not need to hear again? Any reason why? I'm not that wild about Uncle Alvarez...but I still listen to it 6.) Who's your favorite movie actor of all-time?
