Boss Hog are an off shoot from the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, or rather they're Jon Spencer's other band. Not to dissimilar to JSBE really. Never been able to sum up JSBE, but if Ruthie's still around i'm sure she could. Not a bad album, but the Yo La Tengo, Josh Rouse and Wannadies albums are the tops so far this year. Then again, they're not the same sort of thing, Boss Hog is a bit heavier than them, but i bet Yo La Tengo could be louder. I haven't watched Dawson's Creek in a long time cause the story started getting so redundant. As for the poster, listening to Liz would do Joey some good, I think. As for the poll: 1. The song most like me personally is a tie between Divorce Song and Girls Room. Divorce song cause I can identify with it and Girls Room cause I know how catty girls can be. Another song sometimes is Uncle Alvarez :) 2. The one least like me is Mesmerizing 3. If I would be like any person it would be "Mesmerizing" Jen HARRY: Why would you want to read when you got the television set sitting right in front of you? He's an unbelievably arrogant dickhead who ruins as much music as he succeeds with. PJ Harvey was so disappointed with Albini's work on her _Rid of Me_ album that she released her original 4-track demos...and they completely blow Albini's versions out of the water. My friend Jan went to school with Albini, and she can vouch for his hideous personality. Everybody picked on him a lot, too, which probably explains why he swings it around like he's got 15 inches of dick now that he's made a name for himself. He's not really a producer anyhow. He records a band, with his ear set to giving the music a natural feel. Sometimes it works, and other times it doesn't. He doesn't WORK with musicians like normal producers do...he mostly just gets them set up and records. I love Liz, but she needs a strong producer with a vision...which is why the first two albums are such strong statements and _WCSE_ is weaker and somewhat purposeless. Brad Wood is as much of "Liz Phair" as she is herself, IMHO. Bring Back Brad! ; ) Derek ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Mar 2000 10:55:50 -0500 (EST) From: "Dennis J. Without much thought and in no order, I would have to say: 1) Boss Hog "Boss Hog" 2) Beatles "Revolver" 3) Rolling Stones "Some Girls" (where you can pull out the sleeve and put different wigs on the band) 4) Sugar Cubes "Lifes Too Good" (Just for the cat on the back) 5) Santana "Santana" (the first one) Somebody mentioned a cover of "Leaving on a Jet Plane." Has anyone heard Sloppy Seconds do this song? It's such a good version if you like punk. First of all it mentions Tracy Bonham, whom I must say I loved back when "Mother Mother" first came out. I had kind of forgotten about her but I'm excited to hear her new cd Down Here. Anyway, on to Liz...the article talks about Chan Marshall (aka Cat Power) and it says that she is so alternative that "she makes Liz Phair look like Britney Spears." Last nite I had the weirdest dreams both involving Liz. First I dreamed that Liz was playing at this festival thing in my town. But instead of it being just like a concert. It was a contest. And somehow me and her like know each other and she was all upset bc she had run over the allotted time. I was like look go on home and I'll wait and see about the scores. So I wait but I dont hear anything. I go back to my house bc shes staying there, and shes with my mom who is an artist and she tells me that shes never gonna sing or write again bc she is going to paint terra cotta pots with my mother and live in my attic. I was like NO! and 2days later she moves in with nick and her husband and lives in my attic. then I had this other dream about a friend of mine that lets just say comes of me listening to "flower" to much and made me feel really creepy when I saw him the next day. kim I WANT TO BREAK UR HEART AND GIVE U MINE-GARBAGE ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V3 #65 ***********************************
