Well.. tehre are a few.... but the biggest one is the one with the bigger named bands on it such as the get up kids.. eve 6(puke)... reel big fish... the siren six..... etc....... Some songs are good..... but all in all i personally think many of the bands butchered the Pixies songs..... which did upset me.... hehe.. but Reel Big Fish did a GREAT cover... and i mean GREAT cover of Gigantic..... and the Siren Six song is okay..... that's about ALL that is worth it! haha.. The Liz album you'd play to convert someone? EIG, but WCSE gets better results for some reason. 2.) Does your answer change if the person is your mom? If so, what album? Hell no! EIG got my mom into Liz in the first place, it reminded her so much of Joni Mitchell's "Blue" for some reason. 3.) What Liz song should be on your answering machine? "Supernova," the "Iiii have been all over the place..." sounds cool to leave on the machine. 4.) What Liz song would you ask for if allowed to pick ONE? Probably the chorus for "Only Son." My friends can't stand me leaving work singing the part when I'm happy to head home and they're stuck closing. Mauahaha. 5.) What one Liz song do you not need to hear again? Any reason why? "Flower" cuz of the history I have with it, plus the guy I tried so hard to get keeps bugging me to sing it for him. *sigh* Will I ever give in? Dunno..but I still listen to it. 6.) Who's your fave musician? Paula Cole's drummer, Jay Bellerose. (does that count? He's so hot.) 10.) Who's your fave singer? Sheryl Crow Have any more polls for us Paige? She was absolutely amazing, and she seemed to be genuinely appreciative of the response she was getting from the crowd. It was also apparent, though, that Fiona has issues. At one point she started talking about the absurdity of Christina Aguilera winning a Grammy on the strength of one song and how corrupt the Grammys are. Then, before she played her next song, she started apologizing for saying those things and saying that Aguilera really is a great girl. It was totally paranoid. Fiona is obviously very fragile and totally unstable, but she is an amazing artist, and (for one night anyway) a fantastic performer. I really feel sorry for her in regard to the Roseland meltdown. I think that, with Fiona, you just need to tear away all of the extraneous bullshit to get to the music, because the music is amazing. Was anyone else at the show? Was anyone taping? Is it any good? Do the bands do their own > take or are they just trying to sound like the Pixies? The album came out in the summer, it's pretty good, some bands stay close to the original sound of the songs and others add their own flavor to it like Reel Big Fish and another ska band who played on it. One of the best tracks is "Velouria" by Weezer its totally fitting! and really is Weezer meets the Pixies. The Nada Surf track is good, as is the cover of "Alec Eiffel" and the Promise Ring one. All in all, its worth checking out if you like some of the newer indie bands and are a pixies fan. It could have been a 3 cd set, cos there are so many other tunes that are not covered on the album that should have been Catherine, I was wondering what is the name of your friend's band? (>> but a good friend of mine is on it. (Well, his band is -- they did a song for it). And knowing him and knowing his band, he's not just "trying to sound like the Pixies" -- he took the song and did his own rendition of it. >>) Just curious. I'm always reluctant to describe the music of any of the bands or artists I like as "pop," because most people just don't get what I mean by the term -- this would be a good way of putting it in context. "Pop" and "bubblegum" are not the same.... Although it might be amusing to see Michael Penn on Total Request Live.... ;) Often when reading the list I think the are a large number of musical vegans on the list. It seems that top 40 or bubble gum (or anything outside of the indy/alternative/college genre for that matter) is the equivalent to red meat on the list. I'm of a different mind. I like vegetables (liz phair, jen trynin) as much as the next guy but i also love a nice juicy steak (classic rock, oasis) as well occassional high-sugar junk food (third eye blind, christina aguilara). Cotton candy has no nutritional value but it sure is fun to eat it every now and then.
