Enjoy: I don't have a particularly "embarrassing" Liz moment, but I do have a very weird one. Last year, my ex boyfriend bought EIG at a used cd shop, but it turned out not to be EIG. That's all he told me, and he gave me the cd to find out for myself. It looked like EIG, the actual cd had our favorite 3some on it, the whole nine. I put it in my stereo expecting to hear the opening chords to "6'1"" and what do I hear? SWV. That's right. It wasn't EIG, it was the godawful music of SWV, aka "Sisters with Voices." I guess the cd was printed for BMG or Columbia House, and SWV was burned onto Liz's actual cd. It's hilarious!!! One thread I'd like to see is what everyone's favorite Girlysound song is. It seems like it's all I'm listening to right now. My song of choice is "One Less Thing." The guitar is so evocative, and I think it's one of the best examples of Liz's great songwriting skills. - -Jeff D. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 04 Feb 2000 04:03:42 -0800 From: Shelly Subject: Thanks MrE... Just a note---Thank you, MrE for posting the upcoming S-K tour dates...The Portland date will be great for me, AND I'm taking vacation that week! Now I just have to find a willing body to go with (In this teeny town, I imagine I'm the only one who's ever even HEARD of them, let alone like them enough to want to see them live!) Thanks again! ~gunshy~ Shelly ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Feb 2000 10:11:05 -0500 (EST) From: MAILER-DAEMON Subject: Favorite Girlysound Song I wanted to add onto this thread because I just took the mp3s off the computer and put 'em on a CD, so I've been listening to them more. I can never turn my back on "Why I Left California". It's something that makes so much sense in a way I can't explain. Plus, I've always just loved any sort of music that's real conversational, like someone's right there telling us a story. But, "Sometimes a Dream" is kicking my ass right now. That song just tugs at me. Interesting thread. I remember my sister screaming at me for liking her music, but hey, she was the one who went to see Milli Vanilli and actually liked NKOTB. Thank goodness I didn't get into either one. My list: The Cranberries Madonna (the 80's stuff, where sisters sang along to Lucky Star and such) Bjork Morrissey/The Smiths Jorge asked: "Hey, who sings this great song? It has ringing guitars and starts with the line, "I don't know why I love you." I used to know it but I have amnesia and it's killing me." Clarence 'Frogman' Henry's "(I Don't Know Why) But I Do?" Is that it? From the Forrest Gump soundtrack is how I know about it. Does anyone keep in touch with Josh Webb? Just curious that's all, since he's one of the few list members I remember living near me. I AM the older sibling that influenced my younger sister as far as music goes. Because of me, she loves Liz Phair and Portishead and Lamb and Incubus. Those are the bog four. I think she would have stumbled upon Tori Amos and Bjork and such on her own. But I'm glad to say that I've played my part! Haha. And now that I don't live at home anymore, she calls asking, "Will you PLEASE copy your Girlysound tapes for me? I miss hearing them!" etc etc. It's fun. I like talking to her about music and lyrics. Anyhow, for those of you with YOUNGER siblings, make sure to leave your mark on them! Lol. Take care. Does anyone else want to help >us with the coordination? >Perhaps some people on the list who actually live in >Chicago can answer some of these questions for us as >far as what to do, where to go, ect.... Is there >anyone who could help us with these things? I live in Chicago and I would be happy to coordinate/answer questions/organize activities. I tried to organize this last summer but everyone except Lucas backed out at the last minute. Lucas and I did have our own mini Liz Phest which I reported previously. As far as Liz-related places, we can go to her parents house in Winnetka ( I have been there) and to her high school if that interests anyone. Unfortunately, they have converted the building where she recorded Exile into a strip mall. I can show you where it is though.... We could also tour Wicker Park, although it has changed so drastically since Liz lived there. It is now one of the trendy neighborhoods in Chicago, rather than the artists community it used to be. It's still a cool place though. Sadly, Lounge Ax has now closed. They were in a partially residential neighborhood and the residents did not like the noise. They are looking for a new location. At some point I know someone on this list found out where Liz lives in the city. If they are planning on attending, maybe we can go take a look, or else they can pass the info to me privately, as I remember they did not want to post the address to the list. I promise I will not bother her.... Please e-mail me if you have suggestions on things you would like to see or do. I can check them out for you. There seems to be this whole network of people who have a copy of GirlySound. Not me! Where can I get it? I will pay for a tape of it. Thank you so much. Laurel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Feb 2000 11:52:29 -0800 From: carrma@WellsFargo.COM Subject: B&P or Trade Offer for GirlySound CDRs Hello all! This is my first post to the support-system--mainly because I didn't have much in the way of Liz news (and I don't know jack about Aimee Mann!). I was thrilled to see that there are quite a few Dylan fans on the list! Anyway, I have been able to get a hold of some great CDRs from the good kind people of this mailing list and would like to pass on the favor. I'm offering up the Girlysound discs (2CDR) up for trade or blanks and postage or any other interesting offers. I'd rather not deal with tapes (my tape deck right now does not have an adjustable record level so you get stuck with the factory issue setting AND I got my just got burner a few MONTHS back and still need to play with it constantly). I'd rather not get into the whole selling CDR thing, but if you are just dying to get them and there is no other way, perhaps we could do some at cost deal. But, personally I think bartering is better. If you are interested, drop me a note with your trade list, best offer, and/or to get my address etc...
