(Same age range, 28 on 1/20/00). I know this is corny - - but I've decided it's like Liz says - you've got time. You really do. Hang in there! =) - -Janet ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Jan 2000 11:37:42 -0800 From: "Dana Polachowski" Subject: astro+logos oh my god, i just about died when i read sandra's post about the "saturn return." you're not gonna believe this, but i am an astrologer-in-training. anyone else into astrology? i'm gonna be doing it for a living before too long.... i can tell you stuff about liz's chart, if anyone wants to know.... anyway, more generally, yeah, anyone who was born '68-'71 is going through their saturn return. astrologically, *that's* the beginning of "adulthood"; it's not 21 or 18, but ~30. you really start to come into your own a lot more, make decisions based on what's right for YOU instead of "what does society/my parents/my friends expect of me?" i can be really liberating, actually, but usually there's just A LOT of work and heaviness attached to this period. some stark, cold realizations.... another thing that's going on, for those born in the mid-60s, is the pluto-pluto square. you're probably feeling ENORMOUS PRESSURE to do something that makes a difference in the world, that says "my life matters." you're very aware of your own mortality and what you have/have not accomplished with your life and so are now trying to figure out what the hell you can do with the rest of your life so you can feel it's not all a big waste. anyone going through that right now?? again, these are people around 34-38. ok, so this is probably too long already, but if anyone wants to know more about any of this, feel free to email me. floating on neptunian gossamer, dp ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Jan 2000 13:57:09 PST From: "Julia Grella" Subject: not selling out I think the selling out thing is pretty complicated. As a musician, you get to a certain point where you realize there is no reason to do what you do, since the rewards you get from society (paycheck, recognition) are limited, if they exist at all, for all but a very few, who might be lucky rather than talented. So, if you love and believe in what you do, you keep doing it just for that, because there are no other reasons to be a musician if you want to have a happy life. Still, music is such a difficult profession -- why shouldn't people have success and recognition? Even if it's cooler when only you and your friends know about a certain band, don't forget that the band members (or opera singers, as the case may be) are slaving away at other jobs to make ends meet, AND taking care of daily responsibilities like everyone else, maybe families, AND making their art, which is a full-time job itself. So, if people achieve any kind of recognition in this field, I'm happy for them. First I was one of the complainers - now I'm one of the converted masses. I can't believe how much I love the Magnolia soundtrack. I'm glad that most of her stuff has been far away from that initial Til Tuesday album - I just can't bear Voices Carry. Anyway, I wanted to hear - offlist, I guess - about where to join the Aimee mailing list. I hear tell this isn't it! And if anyone can hook me up with some Aimee, I can trade some Liz for the privilege. Thanks for your time! paige- ===== "Wake up, dead man.
