I felt like I was watching a movie that was supposed to be shocking...in the 50s". Really? I enjoyed "Mr. Ripley" more than I had expected to. I thought all the performances were excellent and the photography was awesome.......I did think the film was too long and the story was a little too similiar to Single White Female......... But you got to admit that it was worth seeing the sparks fly between Jude Law and Matt Damon in that bathtub scene........I give Matt much more credit than I used to. anyway, I also recommend "Liberty Heights" and "Man on the Moon" to some extent........Although Jewel is good in "Ride with the Devil", the film is a snooze..... check out my homage to Exile on my webpage.......... http://hometown.aol.com/rocketboyd/ P.S. check out the Magnolia soundtrack if you haven't!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to say there's an article of Ms. Holloway in the current or last months copy of "Entertainment Weekly"...I'd go get it, but it's buried under a pile of clothes that need to be put away & I'd wake up the hubby. (sad but true!) As for Holiday birthdays...My mother's is the 28th of Nov, so it falls on Thanksgiving every now & then. My father's is the 5th of April, and I think it's been Easter once or twice in my lifetime...my younger brother's is the 5th of July ('74), and my youngest brothers is 3 days after mine, which is the 7th of December ('69). What sucked growing up was not only getting gifts that were expensive and having my parents say "This is your birthday present, and part of Christmas too...(a motorcycle, a horse, a ten-speed bike)." But crappiest of all was having to share birthday weekends with my brother, imagine having a houseful of 13 years of girls, and a houseful of 8 and 9 year old boys! Hmmm...what am I bitching about? My poor Mom! *laugh* Okay...enough of that. I asked Santa for more Liz, rare Liz...ah, to no avail. *weepy voice* Maybe there isn't a Santa afterall....*sigh* ~gunshy~ Shelly NP: Beastie Boys~~My own compilation from their anthology. I actually liked this film, and I do not enjoy shit movies. Also your defense of the film Brain Candy, by calling it a cult classic, is questionable, cuz, ya know, "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" is also a cult classic... On a related note: >MrE@mr-e.net> >ExISTENz is the most painful two hours since 'Until the end of the >world'...this critique comes from a cronenberg fan that considers him to be a master >of his art Also a huge Croenenberg fan and I really disagree with you here. I saw it twice, which is unusual for me. I thought it was novel, and brain-twisting in a very good way. Did you like "Dead Ringers" ? I just saw "The Brood" circa 1979 and although it was kinda cheesy, you can trace the origin of some of his themes (mutation, extraneous human organs, mind control, etc.) On a completely unrelated note: >raymond lew >oh yeah, on "oh my god"...i believe the other voice is also liz' voice, >with the track running slower so her voice is deeper. on her squirt tv >appearance, right before she plays oh my god, she mentions how the track >speed function (or whatever it's called) on the four-track is an >invaluable tool. Thank you for confirming that for me! I always thought it was Liz's voice slowed down, but I wasn't sure. If you listen really closely, the timbre of her voice is there, if not the pitch. ( I might be using the wrong music words) Just to add to the debate, Oh My God and Bloodkeeper are two of my favorite songs that almost always make it onto my Real Jukebox Liz Phair Playlist. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Dec 1999 06:13:20 -0800 (PST) From: Easter Subject: Cleaning my room.... I know this isn't much, but I'd much rather offer it to someone who really wants this, instead of giving it to a co-worker who has no idea who the hell Liz Phair is. Anyhoo...I found an extra copy of Liz's Boston, MA 10/6/98 show and '96 shelved demos/studio recordings. Both are on tapes and I never listened to them cuz I got extra copies thru trades and I never noticed. Here's the catch though: Whoever is the first to email me after 12pm (EST) 12/29/99 will get these tapes. This will allow digest people a chance to win this and west coasters as well. If you don't get a response from me, you didn't win. Good luck! I'm new to the list, and I wanted to introduce myself. I'm probably older than most of you -- 34 -- and I'm an opera singer by profession. My ex-husband gave me EIG for Christmas last year, when our marriage was falling apart in huge, bleeding chunks. I couldn't get into it at the time, but a few weeks ago I found it again, and have been listening to it non-stop ever since. The first opera composers, in the early 1600's, were neo-Platonists who believed that earthly music reflected the divine music of the spheres, and that music could influence human nature. EIG has proved it to me once again. I had my first Liz dream last night. Anyway, happy holidays to everyone. . . .
