Kim" Subject: Re: Hmmmmm.... [Morgan Hartsell] To start with Pavement, i would recommend "Brighten the Corners," as it seems to be their most accessible (musically and retailly) album. Everyone likes to sing along to "Stereo" and "Shady Lane." Have a listen at "Slanted and Enchanted" also, i think it's my favorite. I recommend you don't start with "Wowee Zowee" or the "Westing (by musket and sextant)" LP. "Terror Twilight" is also pretty catchy for new listeners. - --- dennis www4.ncsu.edu/~djkim2 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Dec 1999 03:16:39 -0500 From: Jason Long Subject: Aimee Mann/Michael Penn tour dates I thought this might be of interest to some... >Here are the dates for the upcoming Michael Penn/Aimee Mann tour: > >Jan. 25, San Francisco, Bimbo's >Jan. 28, Portland, Ore., Aladdin >Jan. 29, Seattle, Showbox >Feb. 7, Annapolis, Md., The Ramshead >Feb. 8, Alexandria, Va., The Birchmere >Feb. 11, Philadelphia, The TLA >Feb. 12, Somerville, Mass., The Somerville Theater >Feb. 13, Providence, R.I., Lupos >Feb. 15-17, New York, Joe's Pub I'm going to try to get to the show in Philadelphia if I'm able to. Is anyone else considering going? Also, Aimee will be appearing on the Tonight Show on January 5, and as someone else has already posted, has been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Original Song for "Save Me" from _Magnolia_. Let's hope an Oscar nomination follows. 2000 is already shaping up to be a good year musically. It seems that Aimee may finally get the recognition she deserves, and in addition to a new album from her, we also have Liz's record to look forward to. And I know this is only a pipe dream, but since Aimee and Liz do share a guitarist in Buddy Judge, they really should consider touring together some time. Also, speaking of Buddy, this was posted to the Mannlist and I thought I'd pass it along: >> Also noted: There was a copy of "Clownhenge" on Ebay recently that went for >> $50 bucks. Buddy says that he's going to have some more pressed in time for >> the winter tour of the east coast. > >I bought a copy of Buddy's "Profiles in Clownhenge" last night. He's got >such a great voice. Does anyone know anything about that? > >Regardless, if you get a chance to snare one of his discs, I'd do it. Aimee even plays bass on a cool song called "Vision." Besides, >there's 21 tracks on it! If I do make it to the show in Philadephia, I plan on picking up a copy of Buddy's CD. If anyone else would like a copy and can't make it to any of the shows, let me know -- I don't mind picking up a few extra copies for those who'd like them. Happy holidays to everyone! Subject: well I just haven't posted in a while Sometimes I just feel the need to post, but I have nothing to say. Oh since like... well we don't participate in Xmas around here, I rented some videos and I just watched one of them. American PIE (not beauty, easy to confuse the titles). It's so funny! But my sister wants to watch it now and I don't think it's age-appropriate. If I ever have kids, they'll be watching G-rated movies til they're 18 and can rent movies without my consent or whatever. Or til they're... well I guess I can't really stop them from seeing PG, PG-13, R... as they reach the ages that they're LEGALLY allowed to see 'em at. Oh well. I'll just have to lock the doors oso they never get out of hte house. Or maybe I'll try an alternate approach to child-rearinga nd just teach my kids real young about mature subject matter. Well I guess I don't need to decide right now, eh? Later I'm watchin Ferris Bueller. I haven't seen it in many years and I don't remember it. I feel out of the loop whenever people quote it and stuff. (But now I know where some people got the "this one time... at band camp..." thing they kept saying earlier this year.) Isn't it annoying when people endlessley quote movies you haven't seen? A couple people have heard thsi story already: last night my mom ran over my sister's Christina Aguilera CD in a wheelchair (because my sister was storing it in the logical place of the kitchen floor), and she broke it! My sis (who is 15... by the way) started CRYING! It was quite funny. The bad news is, my mom made my bro go out and get my sis a replacement CD today so she's got it back. And I can currently hear the ear drumnumbing baseline... I HATE when all I can hear is BASS! I mean I'm not sure if just bass is worse than the whole shebang, but still. It hurts my ears. But, well Christina bothers me less than Britney, whom my sister is seeing in a couple months. "Because LFO is opening up for her" she says. Whatever, it's bad en0ugh either way. Needless to say, I have nothin to do with my sister's taste in music. Well... I have to go to some other location in the house before my ear drums do implode or something. Or else just go in my room and play my music louder htan my sister's. UGH! UGH! UGH! Later, Nicole P.S. My Liz content: some people like certain songs, some people don't. That's what makes us human. Now... this doesn't pertain to like... what my sister listens to ... tha's just completely WRONG. I'm referring to like... well some people like Blood Keepr and some people don't. Big whoop. Also rented "Blue Velvet" and "Barcelona" (never seen either). The director of "Barcelona" also did "Metropolitan" and "The Last Days Of Disco" - both excellent films, especially the former. "Blue" almost freaked me out (being high heightened matters), but I also got an idea for a book by borrowing Liz's ideas from her EIG:EMS (Exile On Main Street) connection. Pretty good day.
