The song really, well, scares me. i hope the album version is better than the live version i have. thank goodness this song is the exception among the new liz songs so far...i love all the other demos/live songs i've heard. my fave, so far, is firewalker. i hope that's on the new album. steve ps - rufus wainwright is the sexiest man in the world. I actually like "Oh My God", and in fact think it to be one of her most ambitious songs to date.......even though I don't like the male vocal on it and the quality of the demo is pretty embarassing........I think she really had something going on with all of the chord changes and the way the music strikes a familar sound to a church hymn (in the classic Liz sarcasm).......It's almost Liz's "Like A Prayer"........(that's a stretch now)..........Wouldn't it be great to hear Liz cover that? I can just her her sing it in her dry and humorous intoning, "Life is a mystery/everyone must stand alone/I hear you call my name/and it feels like home" and then the song breaks out into a furious guitar blast reminicent of "Rocket Boy" or "Turning Japanese"......or better yet, she could do it in a ballad style reminicent of "Dance of the Seven Veils"....?....HA HA....... happy holidays to all, PHIL ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Dec 1999 03:18:25 EST From: JMichaelRecords@aol.com Subject: Liz on AOL For any AOL users... Meow Grrl wrote: "but thanks for all your responses to the 'jealousy' thing ... so cool." Jealousy is one of my favorite songs, and I always get a mental picture in my head of the scene in the movie "9 1/2 Weeks" when Mickey Rourke's character leaves Kim Basinger's character alone in his house for a few hours unexpectedly. If I remember correctly, he tells her not to be "a naughty girl" and snoop around through his things. She does. In his closet armoire he keeps photos of an ex. Now, being that the relationship the two main characters have in this flick, I think she must be curious as hell--maybe not so much jealous--over the type of relationship he had/has with the elusive woman in the photo. "I know it's just a drawer of photographs They're ex-girlfriends, I try to remember that..." I don't know, long stretch I suppose, but that's what I always get a picture of when I hear that line. Which leads to another question perhaps: What Liz Phair song conjurs up the most vivid visual for you, and why do you think that is? ~gunshy~ Shelly NP: Greatful Dead "American Beauty"--Still a classic in my mind. ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Dec 1999 08:43:41 -0500 From: Meredith Robbins Subject: New Junx at Exile in Netville! Yes, people, you heard right. The Official Exile in Netville Year 2000 Beta Test is up -- well, most of it, anyways. You can see it evolve at http://www.exileinnetville.com/new/ (make sure you keep that "new" in there, elsewise you will be confused). I've done all the easy parts; the only things left are the articles and reviews sections, which I anticipate will take at least into January. Keep checking back! I intend to upload new stuff as I finish it, which means that you -- yes, you -- can actually witness the renascence -- yes, renascence -- of one of the oldest extant Liz sites on the Internet. Boy oh boy, I know I'm excited. Please, please, please tell me what you think of the Official Beta Test. (Of particular interest might be my complete transcription of "Bars of the Bed," which I don't think has been published online before.) Thank you! I'm always picturing things while hearing Whip-Smart, so I guess that's the most visual for me. The "standing on mudflats, watching the salmon FLYYYYYYY"; the "when they do the double-dutch, that's them dancing." Etc... I find EIG to be HIGHLY visual. But I'm a very visual person, I like to think it's because I'm a writer. Also I always picture the conversation going on in the bar, first in Polyester Bride and then Bouncers' Conversation - different bars pictured. paige- ===== "I had a dream and you were in it. When it was first made available to us those many months ago, I forwarded a copy to friends who are LP fans (though not Phans) but not on this list. They enjoyed the song, and are looking forward to a polished, CD version this spring (hopefully). I'm sure there are newer versions around, but the one I have (and probably you do too), it's a little rough, but that was one of the first times it was performed live. It takes a while for an artist to knock all the rough spots from a song. > disgust and am embarassed to admit who the artist > is if anyone else hears it (hence I don't play the song...EVER) Have you ever considered disenrolling from this list? A very fun track called Erecting a Movie Star. It also includes a Jeff Buckley song (yippee!) and is one of the better soundtracks out there. The song is played during the course of the movie. The movie is better than Brain Candy and She's All That, and about on par Higher Learning. I love comparisons. paige- ===== "I had a dream and you were in it. You ran a race, but you didn't win it.
