Subject: bleh Man... my only problem with the latest poll that's taking place on the mailing list is the one about hte websites. I try really hard on my site, and I just feel like it's kind of... well it's like saying "rate your favorite list member" in a way, because quite a few of us have websites (including me, of course), but well... now the truth comes out, my site sucks or whatever... I mean with people saying things like they like mesmering better "by far", it kind of hurts. I know this seems like a really dumb and childish complaint, but think about it. How would you like it if there was a poll somewhere that included something you spent alot of time and energy working on, and like... every day people kept sending you messages about how all the other people's stuff was so much better htan yours? It just makes me sad. I'm just having a really bad week too in terms of my emotions, I guess, and it's just one more thing. It wouldn't be such a big deal if I *DIDN'T* put so much time and energy on my site. I just feel like it's a slap in the face... I mean... I'm not saying don't answer that question, cuz everyone has a right to express their opinions about it, and you know... if my site is bad, I guess it's bad and I need to face up to that, but well ... I dunno. Here's my solution, actually... someone out there who likes my site... take the poll and write that down, just to make me feel better. Yeah, selfish, but i need a boost. :) Later, Nicole ... and in case you lost it, it's http://www.crosswinds.net/~inhiding. So i thought i would pop up to say a couple of things. So, the blake babies are recording a new album possibly in bloomington indiana, and i happen to live 40 miles west of there and will be there this weekend, hmmm coincidence? yeah, probably. I think that the new album title "an evening with.." is really interesting, but i also am a bit skeptical as to whether it will stick for the next couple of months. True it has the sort of shag carpet piano lounge image, in my mind, but it also has a degree of intimacy to it. i also think three is the slight implication that she feels this will be a kick-ass record. don't some greatest hits collections use a title like that? thats about all. oh below is the second poll, it an excuse i suppose to post since i so rarely get involved anymore. sigh. 1.) Rate Liz's albums in order of your preference. - -Always Exile first, then probably WCSE and WS. It changes. 2.) What's your least favorite Liz song? - -despite popular opinion it' uncle alverez 3.) What song would you request of her in concert? - -I have always had the desire to hear South Dakota live. 4.) What song would you prefer not to hear in concert? - -I want to hear them all, at the same time, in one concert, just for me. 5.) What's your favorite Liz soundtrack song? - -Rocket boy, Rocket boy 6.) What's your fave Liz Web site to visit? - -No offense meant to anyone, the three that i PERSONALLY like best are (in no order) Exile in Netville, Mesmerizing, and I SPY A MAY QUEEN. this is in caps because it was Nicole's email that got me up and doing this. In all honesty i think that anyone who takes the time to dedicate an entire site to liz is deserving of our thanks and appreciation. Not to mention, gifts, money, and at least a sacrifice under the full moon every month. 7.) What artist do you think is most similar to Liz? - -I would have to say that she sort of stands on a level of her own. But I am sure that there are some but i cant think of them right now. 8.) How have you fared in attempts to "convert" others to the glories (hee, hee) of Phairdom? - -fairly decent, i got some guys to start listening to her in high school (exile) and a couple others in college (ws and wcse)but the quest is ever incomplete so i charge forward. boom. that is all. steven [now from home so no more "clever" names :( ] ===== "But thanks for the vision, and the twenty-twenty wisdom, it hit me like a south-bound train" - Ellis Paul __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I'm sure that there will be a great number of people (on this list alone) that will say Liz sold out if she does indeed have a big hit. Hell, alot of people were saying she sold out after WCSE came out, which is a bunch of bullshit. It's called wanting to sell albums so that people will hear your music. What a concept! What would you rather do, play in dinkey little places wondering how long your record company is going to wait for that one big hit, or play in 15,000 seat arenas having the people at the palm of your hand? I don't know about you, but I'd rather sell 5 million albums than 500,000 albums. Yes I've heard the arguments about being a "sell-out" if you compromise your musical integrity. I think most of the time people confuse compromising musical integrity with musical growth. But that's a whole other issue. All I can say is that if fans call Liz a "sell-out", they were never really fans in the first place. Just bandwagon jumpers.
