I don't need to get >more specific about what I mean by "city" because whatever your >interpretation is, that's fine. So do Galaxie 500 videos have anything >that reminds you of the city in them is the question. There are four Galaxie 500 videos on the box set I have, and all are done in the same style, which consists of clips of them performing intermixed with grainy, high cocntrast, saturated color, slo-mo scenes of various things including cars crashing, strippers on stage, newsreel war footage. Nothing that really suggests a city. When I heard the Galaxie 500 reference on the Liz song I pictured the Luna video for "Slash Your Tires" which had Dean Wareham and some blond chick fighting and driving around in a Ford Galaxie 500. Luna is the band he formed after G500 dissolved. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Nov 1999 00:07:37 -0800 From: "Sally Mae" Subject: Liz link, Melissa Liz did an interview on Triple J earlier this year and you can hear it at http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/1999/default.htm There are also interviews with Ben Folds, Garbage, Smashing Pumpkins and Mr. E's fav, Placebo. Melissa Auf Der Maur has officially joined Smashing Pumpkins, she's not just touring with them. WHY Melissa WHY?? I thought she was gonna start her own band or have a solo career or something! I would imagine Courtney would be a tad annoyed with Billy pinching her bassist even though Billy discovered her but I would be annoyed if I was Courtney too. Also, she is going out with Dave Grohl. I don't think they suit each other, Dave seems a bit jokey and Melissa seems not heaps serious but not as light-hearted as Dave. I reckon she should go out with Brian Molko!! "6'1"...I bought _Exile..._ on accident & just listened to it in order. *grin* 2.) How did it come about? (Radio, magazine, TV,Lilith...) See above. Accidentaly "discovered" Liz while looking for something by another artist. (Sophie B. Hawkins...I know, not much resemblance) 3.) What do you feel is the quintessential Liz song? In my humble opinion: Divorce Song 4.) What is your favorite Liz song? Divorce Song...no doubt about it. 5.) What's the first Liz video you saw? Supernova--ONLY Liz video I've seen. 6.) What's your fave Liz video? Well, since Supernova is the only one... 7.) Do you have a favorite Liz talk show appearance? Nope...haven't seen any. *sigh* 8.) How many times have you seen her live? Twice. Once at LaLuna in Portland, OR several years ago (show was great, crowd was great & was smoking at the time & don't remember a lot about the event...*sigh*) 9.) Have you ever met her? More details, please...Nope, closest I ever got was this last summer at Lilith, but still didn't count. 10.) What is your prize Liz possession? Girlysounds, or maybe the groovy tee-shirt I bought at Lilith. Now...about that Jeffrey Gerard Levy guy at University of Oregon *blah, Go Beavers!* I quite liked the article found here, by Kerry Hungus. http://www.indiestore.com/editorial_eulogy_for_pirate.html Okay, I'm outta here...nothing like a poll, I just can't resist the damned things! ~gunshy~ Shelly NP: They Might Be Giants--Flood ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Nov 1999 15:03:00 -0500 (EST) From: Dan Subject: An Evening with... Woo HOOOO!!! We gots a tentative title!!! I am sooo hyped up for this!!! And, to start a semi-new thread...I LOVE the title!!!! WHo knows what it will end up be called, when it is FINALLY released in the year 2003, but for now, "An Evening with..." sounds great to me. So it looks like she has "Bouncer's Conversation" and "Love/Hate.." for sure...I'm really hoping she includes "Don't Apologize". I'm dying to hear a studio version of this song. I'm guessing Firewalker, My Mistake and that Hello Stranger will end up here too...oh god.. I'm dancing with excitement right now. Also - as for girlysound songs..PLEASE GOD - if anyone (liz included) who has any bearing on this is listening - my number one, phairest wish of all - is to hear a very acoustic, studio version of the amazingly beautiful song: "You Have No Idea". There is no way she can just put this song to waste...oh well..any other thoughts on the title of the album? I'm curious to know what it will sound like..will it be more rock-oriented....? hmmm..oh well.. waiting for the spring craze... Whip-Smart, Dan. NP - David Bowie: "Hours..." Ahhhhh!!!! So Mario Carile will be on the album afterall....shucks. I miss Ric who played drums during the fall tour last year. Damn my "drum ears." Whatever happened to The Wallflowers anyways? I miss them. Strange with this info though, no producer, but yet...Buddy is a producer and will be playing on this album. Hmmm...am I reading this right? Any possibilities that Liz and Buddy would be producing this? Katie ();) "When in doubt, fuck it," John Lennon. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Thousands of Stores. It is the main photo on my site and you can see it at http://phairterritory.freeservers.com if you'd like. It's great to see that we finally have a release period for Liz's new album from a viable source. Spring isn't not too far away! I'm really glad too see that "Bouncers Conversation" is being included on the new album. It's a great song and is definately a throwback to the Girlysounds and Exile era's. I may be one of the only one's however that is glad "Love/Hate Transmission" is going to be on the new album as well. Not too many people on the list seemed to like it too much. When I first heard it I loved it because it reminded me of 60's British pop, which is exactly what Liz described the song as when she said it was Who-esque. I'm primed for another Liz barage in the Spring. I can't wait!
