What an acheivement for a recently-turned 17 year old who's only been on this wonderful list 5-7 months! Hmm...yeah it's strange the things you think of when you're recieting the history of Japan (between 1870-1920 to be specific) to yourself and you see the immaculate Melissa on the wall and the gorgeous Placebo on the door and coincidentally I was in bed at the time! Anway, yes Mr.E you should come to Australia. If you want to see Magic Dirt they're supporting Red Hot Chili Peppers in Jan. and playing the Big Day out also in Jan. I don't like them much but you might. In regards to what I think about Courtney? SHE FUCKING ROCKS! I love her, she and Shirley inspired me to pick up guitar, hell that reminds me of something, side note: I told Shirley this when I met here and I made her SMILE- I've got photographic proof. Courtney is such a goddess and I think she's a good role model for young women in the way that she's got brains and she isn't afraid to use them and she's outspoken and she's a proud feminist. All that stuff about her involvement with Kurt's suicide is absolute bullshit if you ask me. Awhile back I remember reading on someone's site that when Kurt Cobain died, Liz did some kind of tribute to him in concert. It may have been saying just a few words about him or maybe dedicating a song to him. Does anyone remember this or was I dreaming or something? I swear I remember reading this, but for some reason I can't find it anywhere. Can anybody confirm this? I had read about Liz in RS and elsewhere, found EIG used at FBC in east lansing (plug for the best used CD store ever!), thought "what the hell, must check it out," popped it into their headphone thing, and was hooked about 15 seconds into it. 3.) hmmm...divorce song, strange loop, nashville, shatter...most of them, actually. 4.) fave song...too much pressure! divorce song, strange loop, shatter, help me mary, nashville, go west, crater lake, batmobile, pefect world, easy, stuck on an island, and hey, can't get out of what i'm into (which i'm hearing for the very first time as i type)...don't make me do this, too hard! 5.) supernova is the only liz video i've seen. 6.) cannot determine favorite video. 7.) i've only seen a couple talk show appearances, they were during the whip smart days, and i (don't flog me) wasn't impressed. 8.) i had tickets last year to two cancelled shows...but i;ve never seen her, in almost six years of fandom! 9.) never met her. 10.) prized possession? wcse demos, my new girlysounds tapes, and live shows that tad sent me! rock stars i would fuck: hmmmm....the guy would have to be (don't laugh) either beck or dave grohl, 'cause i like fun, geeky-cool guys, and i always love their interviews. woman would have to be tori, i guess. or maybe ani difranco, b/c at least she'd know what she was doing. >Like M-16 and F-16 in Supernova. ...i know its wrong, but i first heard it as "M-16" (forgive me, i'm not up on my bombs and guns) and i will always sing it that way, b/c it flows better. ...i second TMKs review of 'dogma'...go! ...noticing more michigan folks rearing their heads...yay! ...will be in the seattle/olympia area thanksgiving - december 1. if you live there, email me at valerieb@mindspring.com, let me know what i must do (besides deal with the rainy, 40-something degree weather). happy thanksgiving all! ...valerie ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Nov 1999 11:20:06 EST From: StarzAnMoonshine@aol.com Subject: Re: lizzie questionaire In a message dated 11/20/99 5:19:05 PM Central Standard Time, phairer@yahoo.com writes: << 1.) At her show in New York on April 8, 1994, the day Kurt's body was found, Liz dedicated "Explain it to Me" to Kurt after playing it. I forget exactly what she said -- haven't listened to the tape in a while -- but it seemed off-the-cuff, completely unplanned. Listening to the show, you do get the impression that the crowd is somewhat unsettled and distracted, and at a couple of points, most notably after Liz's dedication, you can hear audience members talking about Kurt. Brad Wood once wrote in an e-mail to me that that show was the more surreal musical experience of his career. The subject had come about because he had been looking for a tape of the show. Didn't we have this same discussion about people telling the ending of Blair Witch?" Well, I apologize for this egregious lack of judgement; I have to admit that I was second-guessing myself a little after I submitted that post. I had read about Alanis' character in various different media well before the movie was released, so I assumed (deadly word) that it was common knowledge. In all honesty, your movie advisors are exaggerating a bit. Knowing about Alanis hardley makes a difference in the grand scheme of the plot - and it actually clues you in to some other cool twists during the movie which I found to be cool - i.e., knowing the God character enhanced the film for me. So again, sorry about this - but don't avoid _Dogma_ because of "The Secret." The movie is already a classic in my mind, and if you liked _Clerks,_ _Mallrats_ and/or _Chasing Amy_ (Kevin Smith's other movies), you will enjoy this one.
