My only live performance I have is the "Never Said" from Lillith.....which is completely awesome......i heard that there was a live version of Uncle Alverez on a Starbucks cd......Is that true? thanks for listening, Phil ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Nov 1999 03:16:30 EST From: Nach1120@aol.com Subject: Re: support-system-digest V2 #334 wow...i was just checking out the mesmerizing web site...(by the way, it kicks ass) i had no idea there were 5 Liz mailing lists! are most people on only this one, or do you suscribe to more than this? Question: What to do with the drunks next door when they wake me up at 4am? "i would like to ask the fine members of this list to describe the radio programming in their particular parts of the world ..." Sorry, I cannot remember who first posed this question earlier this week...but here's my $.02--Local radio here, for the most part is garbage. There are 24 presets on my car stereo for the FM side. I have the same channels programmed in to the same six on each of the 4 "sub sets" (does that make sense?) Anyway... There's KGON, 92.3--"Portland's Home of Real, Classic Rock & Roll". They should call it "Portland's Home of Crusty Rock" It's playlist mostly consists of bands like The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Pink Floyd, Boston and the like. Now, I don't mind those bands, but the DJ's are lame and they play mostly the same songs by the same artists day after day. To me, their only saving grace is the fact that weekday mornings they broadcast out of L.A's KLOS "Mark & Brian" morning show--those guys (when they're not droning on about sports for 2 hours) really crack me up. Then there's 101--I don't even know what the call letters are anymore. I stopped listening to it when they started playing Howard Stern (ducking, preparing for a brutal bashing) Sorry, I just don't think he's funny & they fired a really funny DJ to broadcast his show. The music isn't bad in the late afternoon--Helmut, Smashing Pumpkins, Rob Zombie, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, some AC-DC & Dio, Dokken & the like thrown in for good measure. Almost completely void of any female musicians. For the most part I don't listen. 107.5--"The Beat" Hmm...repetitive repetitive repetitive. Mostly what I've termed "chick rock". Sarah McLauchlan, Sheryl Crow, Paula Cole, Melissa Etheridge, oh jeez...that band that sings "Kiss Me"...Sixpence None the Richer...and stuff like that. They do have a decent 80's hour in the evenings though. A little too...uh...MOR for me. Lastly (Oh, holy cow, this is much longer than I thought it would be, I'm sorry!!) 94.7. KNRK--When I listen to the radio, I usually listen to KNRK. They played a "new" (I'm saying new, because we're kinda slow on the uptake on a lot of things around here) Our Lady Peace song the other day & they run concert promos for local clubs, like La Luna & the Crystal Ballroom, which both are host to a usually hip musical fare. If Liz were to have a new release with "radio friendly" songs--94.7 would be the station to play her. *taking a deep breath* Whew! Aren't ya glad I shared the pretty-much bleak musical picture around here? ~gunshy~ Shelly NP: "Happiness Isn't a Fish You Can Catch"--Our Lady Peace ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Nov 1999 13:56:02 PST From: "M.L. I'd also tell her she has been an inspiration to me since I write as well. None of my stuff comes out anywhere near what she writes....good stuff I think. Anyways...no theme parks for me, sounds too Mickey Mousey. A nice long drive on the highway sounds nice with the top down on my car while we blast the stereo system in my car. Speaking of radio....there was one good station here in Orlando called SHE 100.3. It played my kind of music and I was always listening to it in summer '97. Well....since I live in FL...they changed the format and changed to oldie rock station. Great, just what we needed since it sounds like the other classic rock stations we have. There's one I listen to once in a blue moon, WMMO 98.9. I like them cuz they play Fleetwood Mac and Wings. I usually don't listen to the radio since I have too many cds to pick from. Ok......I know that many of you folks out there feel that Ms. Fiona Apple is a nutcase and a half...... But, she is talented, both vocally and musically, you have to admit......She carries herself like an adolescent, but face it, that's what she is, and was on her debut album. And her latest, When the Pawn........ makes Liz's whitechocolatespacegg's unwieldly title look simple. I do admit to being a big Apple fan, though not an obsessed one.....and I did rush out to buy Pawn this week.......But, I admit that the album is a bit disappointing. It definitely fell shy of my expectations, whereas WSCE exceeded them...... BUT, there is a song on Pawn that has the musical sophistication and emotion to blow Liz out of the universe. it is track number 5 and it's called "Paper Bag".......UNFUC#ING BELIEVABLE!! The album is definitely worth purchasing based on this one brilliant song. The album will take a couple spins to sink in, but it is worth the investment. And, I'll through my two cents in on Tori's latest, To Venus and Back......The live stuff is good, but not essential to the package....and the new songs are good, but not nearly as strong as last year's Choirgirl Hotel......But, like Apple, there is one song that stands higher than the rest......Track 7, "Josephine", is a sterling display of songwriting, and considerably sweetens the pot when you think about dropping $20 for the cd....... Ok, I'll shut up now..... PHIL (RocketBoY) ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V2 #335 ************************************
