I really like that song, especially the lyric: "Elizabeth help me I can't find the room...." I love it when Liz refers to herself in the third person.....It's kinda like the lyric at the end of "Stuck On An Island",...."Aloha, doctor Phair." It's a very effective technique...... And it's definitely a lot less egotistical and self-indulgent than Mrs. Houston's, "I thought I had somebody down for Whitney...." Where's the intelligence and sophistication in mainstream music today? Cause I ain't looking for someone to pay my bills................. just trifilin' here at my computer, Phil (aka RocketBoy) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Nov 1999 03:06:31 EST From: Juvenilia@aol.com Subject: Given Her Due Hello people.... I just wanted to thank Jason for posting the Aimee Mann information regarding the release of the new album as well as the soundtrack for "Magnolia". I too, am greatly anticipating new Aimee music. Maybe 2000 will be a promising year for Ms. Mann. She deserves it. And to Nicole, I haven't neglected the site. There just isn't much going on with Liz to necessitate an update to the website. I do need to 'finish' the last incarnation, however. Maybe that's what you were referring to. Anyway, sorry to everyone who read this in hopes of some relevant Liz information. The other one comes during the "shave and go to work" part of "Nashville." That gives me chills for some reason. OK, hope to chat with you people soon." That part makes me melt . . . always. The crazy yearning in her voice and the way it rises and crashes into the refrain part. Slays me. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Nov 1999 12:03:50 -0500 (EST) From: Dan Subject: Matthew Sweet/In Reverse Dammit! Matthew Sweet is coming to St.Andrew's Hall in Detroit, on November 7th, and yeppers - I have to work. That son of a bitch should have called me *personally* to let me know he was arriving. Ah well..just passing the news on to any Windsor/Michigan people who may want to see the lovely Mr.Sweet, and NOT have to work in a stupid fucking video store with a bunch of people who only listen to movie soundtracks and never take any of my shifts that I want off. anyway, while I am on the subject of MS, (not the disease) did anyone get the new album, "IN REVERSE"? I personally love it to death. "Thunderstorm" has to be one of the greatest endings to ANY Matthew Sweet album I have heard. I love each one of his albums in their own way...and even though they progressively begin to sound like bubble gum commercial power-pop/rock songs - - they never fail to blow my mind. "Before I knew I had you, you were gone." I'd say this is his best album since "Girlfriend". Mind you, i loved "100% Fun" and "Blue Sky On Mars" was incredible too...but, i don't know..they kind of lacked something for me in a way. "Altered Beast" didn't do much for me at all. "BSOM" (sounds dirty) was waaaaaay too short, for one thing, and "100% Fun" was excellent..but, I think Matthew Sweet really captured the art of amazing, intricate song-writing with "In Reverse". This album, for me, seems like a much more suitable and serious follow up to "Girlfriend". I mean, 17 musicians on ONE song!!! That is either ridiculous or genius!! He made a god damn One-Man Bohemian Rhapsody!! 4 stars here. loving it to death, and sorry that my post is "Liz-lite". Reversing, Dan.
