Maybe we could do a B & S.A.S.E. :) It would really make me happy if I could get a copy. And I just heard "Carnivore." Yes I know its like 6 years old. Listining to that song has to be the best way to spend 2 min, 18sec. I mean its the BEST Liz song I've ever heard in my life (Past, present and future). Dan said >I mean, I guess for that kind of album, it's a good one..but, it is in the same market with Britney Spears and all them..she's even opening for that "boy-band" 98 Degrees.< I'm sorry but I believe by calling 98 Degrees a "boy-band" you are insulting REAL bands so I always refer to them as groups- cause that's all they are- contrived, semi-attractive groups of younguns who probably really can't sing or write songs or play instruments!..Sally *********************************** chickclick.com http://www.chickclick.com girl sites that don't fake it. http://www.chickmail.com sign up for your free email. *********************************** ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Oct 1999 01:22:22 -0600 From: Patrick Chan Subject: Re: cost of second blank very nearly identical to postage!!!! Hey all, Christ writes... >The last time I bought a blank CD-R or a blank high quality Maxell tape, the >cost was nearly identical to that of mailing a CD or cassette. Somehow lost in >this debate has been the simple and obvious fact that the guy who offers you >a two-for-one deal must still pay postage out of his own pocket. It's only >the second blank which keeps him from going into the hole. Dude.. you missed the entire root of the debate. The issue isn't 2-for-1 = pure evil... It's 2-for-1+postage = pure evil. :-) If you check your archive (you keep 'em all right? :-) heheh), you'll notice that many have already acknowledged your observation, and you're absolutely correct. It's the whole reason why 2-for-1 deals were ever considered in the first place. The issue now is that there seems to be a trend that newer (perhaps) traders have taken it a step further and have forgotten that the 2nd blank was originally intended cover for postage. But the bottom line is - if you agree to whatever terms the other party sets out, that's what it is. If you're willing to send off 50 blanks for 1, by all means.. (it must be nice to have money.... can i get adopted? :-) ). Just keep in mind that you don't have to. There are truckloads of traders out there willing to trade you for cost and a thank you. For those of you asking 2-for-1+postage - by all means... but you probably shouldn't misrepresent your policies as standard trading practice.... It ain't. Keep in mind - as soon as "profit" enters the picture (repayment for your time counts as profit), copyright laws kick in real quick. In Canada (I tried looking for US copyright law, but the reading is pretty dry - anyone with any background feel free to hop in) - you can legally make copies of copyrighted music for PERSONAL use.. which apparently includes making copies for friends. I have no idea how this applies to bootlegs..... although with the "tape tax" (whenever they decide how much and when they're gonna start charging it), artists will be able to recoup some royalties from concert boots... hmm... Another bit of info if anyone's interested... there are 3 inherent copyrights on any recorded song. Performance, the song, and the recording (the CD). Insane.. I know... heh And the copyrights can belong to 3 different parties - typically the artist, the songwriter, and the label.... all of which can be transferred to whoever... Amazing what kinda info you can find online.. :-) later folks! I really >enjoyed your response and I agree 100%. I have never >understood the whole concept of selling out. It just >makes no sense to me. I mean, the whole reason >someone is in the music industry is to sell albums >right? Selling out usually means compromising your musical integrity and beliefs in order to sell more records. Let's say that you hate techno. If you are going to add some in your songs just because people like it and it's going to make your record much more popular, then you fit the common definition of a sellout. The opposite of selling out is staying true to yourself. Moe ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V2 #304 ************************************
