I know everyone is probably sick of this issue, but I feel compelled to point something out. It seems many of you think that making a copy of a CD or tape bootleg for a blank and postage is somehow morally pure, while making that same copy for two blanks is the root of all evil. The last time I bought a blank CD-R or a blank high quality Maxell tape, the cost was nearly identical to that of mailing a CD or cassette. Did any of you caught up in your righteous indignation ever pause long enough to consider that maybe the second blank is a way of paying for postage? That maybe some people ask for the second blank just so they don't have to deal with cash, checks, or stamps being sent through the mail? Somehow lost in this debate has been the simple and obvious fact that the guy who offers you a two-for-one deal must still pay postage out of his own pocket. It's only the second blank which keeps him from going into the hole. Four bucks is four bucks, whether it's one blank and a couple of dollar bills, or two blanks. One makeup of the four dollars worth of stuff is not morally superior to the other. I see either way as someone saying, "Sure, I'll make that for you, and I don't need to get anything out of it as long as it doesn't cost me anything." Either type of offer is pretty generous compared to selling the item on ebay for $30. - -Chris ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Oct 1999 12:28:59 -0400 From: "overpavement" Subject: liz mp3's and ra files a few items, mostly related to liz (as unusual as that's become recently on this list...): - - http://homepages.msn.com/CookingCt/crookedrain/lpramp3s.html - - i've uploaded some mp3's and realaudio files of songs from liz's show at the 930 club in april. for now there are 4 songs on the site, and i'll plan on rotating them weekly (or so), to eventually work through the whole setlist. the songs up there now are just 4 of my favorites from that night: 1) a very sloppy solo version of 'may queen' 2) a great version of 'mesmerizing', with drunken glasses falling 3) a good, early version of 'firewalker' 4) the first song from the encore, 'perfect world', with some great, unexpected echo - - you may or may not have trouble downloading the mp3's and getting your player to start up automatically. seems like a problem with the server-side file-type definitions. the RA files always work okay. - - this page also includes a photo of liz's ck billboard at houston and broadway in nyc. it's a daytime shot, although i should've taken it later, since the wall is lit up all night. for anyone going to nyc (or already there), there are posters with this shot at the off-street entrance to penn station (where you'd go to pick up a cab), on either side of the stairs. it's probably available elsewhere in the city, but those were the places i saw it. my guess is, a good strong razor-knife and the poster is your's. but i don't want to encourage vandalizm or anything... - - sorry for the pop-up ads on the site. i hate msn, but am using their storage space. - - the site also includes one song from r.e.m.'s recent show in the d.c. area. that recording came out...okay, but it's definitely not a sound-board recording... - - wanted to list links to all the liz concert photos i could find on the web, so if you have concert shots available, let me know and i'll add them. the only general-purpose liz site i listed was mesmerizing, which obviously includes concert shots, as well. in some cases i deep-linked into the photo page(s) of a more general site. if i did that to your site, and you want me to only link to your home page (for counters or whatever), just email me and let me know. - - the other day here in virginia i saw a license plate that read 'lizz-net'. it made me wonder if anyone on this list has lizense plates that reference liz one way or another. i do not, but i wondered if anyone is *such* a rabid fan that they have 'lizfair' or something as their personalized license plate (VA only allows 7 characters). - - off-topic (so skip this part if you want), while in nyc i saw juliana hatfield at the knitting factory on thursday. just her and her guitar, playing new songs almost exclusively. wierd show (or is that weird?). a country-rock singer named patricia vonne opened the show, and i'm still trying to figure out who put this bill together. vonne's show was only 7 songs, and she sounded like early lone justice. she seemed to really enjoy performing and was obviously a pro. but the crowd had NO idea what to do with a singer who wasn't terminally depressed. i was totally blown away by her kick-ass set. then juliana walked out, stepped up to the mic and said, 'i was telling this guy here (pointing to some guy in the front row), the internet is bad. it's very bad.' when she didn't get the cheers she may have been expecting, she added, 'but i'm older than most of you, so that may be part of the problem.' now, this was either very courageous or a very dumb thing to say while internetworld was going on in nyc, and many in the crowd had obviously attended that show. i'm not going into the performance itself -- as a long-time blake babies/juliana/lemonheads/antenna/velo-deluxe fan, i was personally disappointed, although it was great to hear her do 'nirvana' live. late in the show someone asked her (this was a *very* small venue -- maybe 200 people tops) if she ever read the juliana hatfield mailing list. 'i've never seen it,' she replied. 'i figure i already know what i need to know about what juliana hatfield is up to.' which makes perfect sense. for anyone wondering if liz subscribes to this list, that should explain why she almost certainly does not -- i've gotta believe she has better ways to spend her free time than to be reading about why (insert moron's name here) hates alanis morissette. hell, i despise tori-ble amos, but don't want to waste everyone's time by listing all the reasons on a thread supposedly devoted to liz phair. then jh added that she thought the internet WAS good for keeping up with her favorite bands on their mailing lists, but since she didn't own a computer, she didn't get to receive updates very often. later she invited a girl in the audience to play and sing 'feeling massachusettes', since she said she couldn't remember it herself. unfortunately, the girl couldn't play guitar very well, couldn't remember all the words, and couldn't really sing. so, an idea that had potential sort of ended abruptly when jh cut the song after one verse. it certainly didn't turn out like the 'flower' episode at liz's lounge ax show. o p ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Oct 1999 14:11:25 EDT From: "duncan 'coming at you like a milktruck' brown" Subject: Re: support-system-digest V2 #300 please remove this address from the support system digest mailing list. thank you for your time. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Oct 1999 14:52:06 -0400 (EDT) From: "Dennis J.
